At Density, we build one of the most advanced people sensing systems in the world. Density can tell you how many people are in any room in real-time, with very high degrees of accuracy, and without invading privacy. The result of distributing this platform is lower emissions, less waste, better access, safer buildings, and better-designed cities. It is a long-term pursuit and one we could use your help achieving.

The Opportunity
Our people counting solution requires sophisticated hardware paired with our analytics platform. This makes our accounting function a bit more complicated than you might find at the average hardware or software company. We source all of our hardware components and assemble our sensors in-house, so there's components to purchase, work-in-process inventory to track, and cost of goods sold to calculate. Having a precise understanding of our margins is critical as we scale. On the software side, there's subscription revenue recognition to manage for a rapidly growing customer base.

We count over 1 million humans per day. Over the next 18 months, we plan to count 100 million every 24 hours.

Who you are
The Senior Accountant is a newly created role reporting to our Controller. You’ll help us build a strong infrastructure to support growth and scale. You thrive in a start-up environment. Your friends and co-workers describe you as someone who gets it done, and is good-natured, analytical, detail-oriented, and insatiably curious.

You’ll be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations across all aspects of the business. This role will be very hands-on and play an integral part in all aspects of accounting operations and a wide variety of projects as we scale. As a Senior Accountant, you will work closely with the Controller on the month-end close process, process building, reporting, and more.

In this role you will:

  • Accounts Payable
  • Run the full cycle of the accounts payable process: vendor record management, resolve discrepancies, prepare outgoing payments, and annual 1099 filings.
  • Administer our Corporate Credit Card Program including card maintenance, employee education, tracking and processing on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Own T&E process for Density. Act as the first line of defense for expense report accuracy and completeness by providing an initial review of all expense report submissions ensuring adherence to T&E policies. Provide Density’s employees with continuous training on T&E policy.

  • Accounts Receivable
  • Direct, coordinate and help respond to customers’, partners’ and sales’ questions, resolving problems/disputes and reconciling discrepancies in order to expedite collections.
  • Maintain master customer and contract files and documents. Review sales order forms and related legal documents (e.g. MSA, PO) for key terms affecting billing and collection, and to identify and communicate other financial, accounting, and legal implications.
  • Update and maintain billing and collection forecasts and schedules. Attain all information pertaining to billing and manage the AR Aging report for weekly billing and collection efforts.

  • Month End Close
  • Assist Controller with monthly close process, working cross-functionally to ensure delivery of on time and accurate monthly financial statements which are in compliance with GAAP.
  • Responsible for month end close processes for various accounts, including but not limited to: Cash, Prepaid Accounts, Fixed Assets, Accrued Expenses.
  • Perform and review Balance Sheet and P&L flux analysis.

  • Other Areas
  • Manage the calculation and filing of required US Sales & Local Tax returns.
  • Assist with Inventory accounting and reconciliation.
  • Build and maintain best in class processes; help streamline accounting processes via automation, identifying efficiencies and standardization.

Implementation Manager
Density
manager Sep 25 2020
At Density, we build one of the most advanced people sensing systems in the world. Density can tell you how many people are in any room in real-time, with very high degrees of accuracy, and without invading privacy. We count millions of humans per day. Over the next 18 months, we’ll count 100 million+.

That’s where you come in.

Should you join us, your role would be an Implementation Manager on our Customer Success team. Implementation Managers lead customer deployments to fulfill the final step in distribution — getting sensors successfully installed, online, and accurate.

Implementation is a fast-paced, complex, and demanding position that is critical to our company and customer’s success. We’re looking for strong communicators and exceptional executors with ownership mentalities––people who are resourceful, creative, detail-oriented, highly organized, and relentless about process improvement and efficiency.

Building Density for scale has been an exercise in patience, creativity, engineering, physics, global logistics, and grit. Density’s people are thoughtful, diverse, driven, and world-class, and we're eager to count you among them.

Role

As an Implementation Manager, you will become an expert on Density’s hardware and software systems. You’ll work directly with the sales team and customers to support installation and setup across dozens of customers in any given week. You’ll learn best practices around power, networking, and environmental factors. You will be customer-focused, detail-oriented, and unafraid to dive into technically complex subjects, analyze data, create documentation, and jump on customer calls to help chase down issues.

You’ll lead cross-functional teams to support customer installations, optimize sensor configuration, and help define best practices, internal processes, and tools to get customers up-and-running smoothly.

About the future

People will inevitably figure out how buildings are used. It’s just a question of time and technology. In our opinion, we’d prefer this future be filled with systems that are fast, accurate, and preserve privacy.

If we can solve the distribution of these systems at scale, it will mean less concrete and lower emissions, less waste, lower costs, better access, safer buildings, and better design.

This, among many other reasons, is why we’re excited to invest in you.

Position Responsibilities

  • Own and drive successful Density deployment processes from pre-sales to installation
  • Become a subject matter expert on Density’s technology capabilities and deployment process
  • Scope new customer engagements through reviewing floorplans, pictures and measurements to visualize a customer’s space in a timely manner
  • Act as a pre-sales subject matter expert on the scoping and installation process

Senior Backend Engineer

At Density, we build one of the most advanced people sensing systems in the world. The product and infrastructure is nuanced and one-of-a-kind. Building this product for scale has been an exercise in patience, creativity, remarkable engineering, laser physics, global logistics, and grit. The team is thoughtful, driven, and world-class.

Importance of Engineering

We build systems that are real-time, accurate, and anonymous by design. Our systems help today’s largest companies understand how their buildings get used. We have counted hundreds of millions of people.

Counting people in “real-time” is unique and particularly hard to achieve. It allows a user to walk into a room, beneath our sensor, and see the room’s occupancy increment 700ms later.

Today alone, Density will ingest over 1m events. In the coming year, our sensor network is on track to grow ten-fold. The overall system load is exploding. Maintaining our low latency standards requires an increasingly thoughtful system.

We’re architecting infrastructure where annual, unscheduled downtime is measured in minutes. We’re building intelligent redundancies so missed events are an oddity. We’re constructing an exceptional engineering team to support always-on, intelligible analytics generated on the fly.

Real-time can solve one of the world’s most fundamental problems -- how do humans use all this space? Last week we launched Safe by Density to help organizations safely return to the workplace. This product, a singular example, would not have been possible without real time data.

This is a large, nuanced, deeply technical problem. We need your help solving it.

  • You have architected complex data pipelines, APIs, and data delivery mechanisms.
  • You have had significant senior responsibility for monitoring, profiling and improving system performance.
  • You have demonstrated the ability to navigate the nuanced needs of internal tools and customer facing systems.
  • You can balance a demanding workload, discern priorities, and communicate tradeoffs effectively.
  • You are resourceful, direct, helpful, driven, and mission-oriented.
  • You have an understanding of statistical analysis and trend data modeling.
  • You have worked with container orchestration technologies like kubernetes or nomad.
  • You embrace the opportunity to share your knowledge.
  • You have a working knowledge of front end technologies like ES6, React, and Redux.
