About Us
Help Scout is made by roughly 110 people in 80+ cities around the world, all with a passion for helping others. We come from diverse backgrounds and are united by an enthusiasm for great products and delightful customer experiences. Help Scout launched in 2011 and today we have more than 12,000 paying customers in 140+ countries.

Why Help Scout?
We're remote. It doesn’t matter if you’ve worked remotely before — we’ve been doing it for nearly a decade and are helping to write the playbook — we’re happy to show you the ropes. Most folks that get a taste of working in a "remote first" company have a hard time going back to the old way of doing things.

We’re passionate about diversity and inclusion. The data is abundantly clear about diverse teams being more successful, and we're dedicated to setting the team up for success. Today our leadership team is 62% women, and that's just the start. Here's our DEI Dashboard where you can see all of our team demographic data and read about our commitment to this work.

We're committed to SMBs for the long term. Help Scout is focused entirely on serving small and midsize businesses, typically up to 500 employees, because those companies view customer service differently. It's not a cost to be optimized, it's their most effective marketing tool and a key differentiator from the competition. We built Help Scout for companies that truly value being customer-centric (like us) and want a product that shares their values.

We're leaving the world better than we found it. Did you know Help Scout is a certified B Corporation, with a mission to give away at least 1% of our product through Help Scout for Good? Our company exists not just to help ourselves, but to invest in our team, our customers, our community, and our environment.

Our commitment to you
We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to building a company that embraces and celebrates diversity and inclusion. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. We have read the studies and understand that diverse teams build better products, bring more perspective to the table, contribute to a company’s financial success and help foster a more inclusive environment for all employees, but the bottom line is that it's the right thing to do.

This Year

Product Manager
manager testing May 20
Ha Nguyen says,“Build products customers love — not like. It’s not ‘nice’ or ‘fine.’ People have to love it so much they’ll tell their friends about it. That’s when you know you’ve hit gold.”

Ever worked on a product where the requirements were dictated to you? Not at Help Scout. We believe in human-centered design, autonomous teams, and the customer breaking the tie. Which means you will be working on a cross-functional team with engineering and design who all share the same focus: learning from our customers and using that knowledge to decide what problems to solve and how to solve them. This is why we look for practitioners who are experienced design thinkers, good at understanding people, and are driven by the love of building products that customers love.

About the role:

  • Starting with qualitative and quantitative research, and partnering with Sales, Customer Success and Marketing, your job is to lead your team in deeply understanding the problems you need to solve for our customers.
  • You will leverage product synthesis frameworks such as personas, journey maps, interview breakdowns, and other methodologies to create clear insights that the team can make decisions around.
  • Writing insightful, clear, and helpful product briefs is part of daily work that ensures everyone on the team has the context they need.
  • You will be the voice of the business within the team. You deeply understand the market, emerging trends, and where the business opportunities lie, and use this to inform vision, prioritization, roadmap, and strategy.
  • Most of your time will be spent working hands-on with cross-functional design and engineering teams to design solutions and deliver value to our customers that also make sense for Help Scout.
  • You’ll be responsible for the successful launch of everything the team ships, which means being accountable for the quality of the solution and the impact that it has on both customers and the business. You’ll define meaningful outcomes and measure results against those standards to make sure we’re always meeting our high bar of excellence.
  • You provide thought leadership, iterating tools, process, and techniques to help define better ways of working, taking advantage of technological advancements and cutting edge practices.

Who you are:

  • You are a skilled facilitator and collaborator with high emotional intelligence. You know the best results happen when a team has psychological safety and is working well together. You constantly inspire them by providing context(the why) and strong evidence of the customer and business value of what they’re working on.
  • You are driven by making things people love to use. You are excited by solving complex problems in the simplest possible way, and know what tools to apply when in order to get there.
  • You’re able to identify what a great product looks and feels like, and have the confidence to challenge the team to produce the best possible result when you know it’s not up to standard.
  • You are thoughtful, organized, and disciplined. You have a bias to action, take initiative and ownership to see things through to completion.
  • You’re comfortable and confident in a remote work setting
  • You’re located between GMT-5 and GMT+1. For example, you could work 9-5 from either Nova Scotia/Boston/Brazil or UK/France.

Experience you'll need:

  • A strong track record of employing human centered design in discovering and delivering successful digital customer experiences with cross functional teams
  • Leading with qualitative and quantitative customer research
  • Facilitating team collaboration and problem solving
  • Managing the balance between business and customer needs
  • An analytical approach to understanding performance and testing new features
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to take complex and technical subjects and break them down using clear, simple writing.
  • Experience or understanding of how to work and collaborate with a remote, distributed team.

Director of Brand
executive Mar 23
Help Scout is a remote first company, with 110 employees working from 80+ cities all over the world to build helpful, human customer service tools. Our mission is to support small businesses with tools that make customer support more helpful and human. Today we’re supporting more than 12,000 of them — we’re passionate about this stuff! We’re also a Certified B Corporation!

The brand team enables us to tell our story in a unique and authentic way, while also having more than our fair share of fun.

As the Director of Brand, your job is to shepherd the creative vision for the company — most notably the visual representation of the brand in the market. Alongside a wonderful team of designers, copywriters, web developers, and other creative folks, you’ll establish practices for realizing this vision and collaborate with various cross-team stakeholders along the way to make it happen.

About the role

  • It’s your job to hire and cultivate a wonderful group of people that sustain Help Scout as a brand that’s beloved among small businesses. You’ll be adding at least 3-5 new folks to the current 5-person team in your first 12 months.

  • As a key stakeholder in our go-to-market strategy, you’ll build cross-team relationships to make sure the Brand team’s work is driving business results forward. Whether it’s a fun internal retreat website, a new feature launch, or an ad campaign, you’ll partner with several different teams to make the work sing.

  • Your team will develop and maintain brand assets that other people in the company use — slide decks, visual assets, copy, and the style guide — anything that enables our teammates to represent the brand well without having to be a designer.

  • You’ll partner with other Marketing leaders to develop and measure KPIs. Each quarter the team works together to set targets that keep teams aligned and give them permission to aim high.

  • You’ll champion Help Scout’s brand through a number of different avenues depending on your personal style. It could be through writing, coordinating behind-the-scenes content to elevate others on your team, or speaking publicly about what you’ve learned.

About you

  • You’ve had plenty of experience as an individual contributor, but at this stage of your career, you prefer to have an impact by mentoring and supporting other creative folks. You are genuinely excited to step away from the work to focus on building up teams, people, and practices.

  • You have a knack for guiding and shaping the work with the lightest touch via brainstorming sessions, design reviews, and other practices that feel collaborative and inclusive to participants.

  • While no one is perfect, as a leader you’ve worked hard on your written and verbal communication skills. You’ve gained a sincere appreciation for what it takes to give your team a sense of clarity prior to starting on a project.

  • You are excited about being part of a“remote first” company and embracing those values in how you communicate and collaborate with your teammates. Everyone on your team today works in a different city and that’s likely to continue!

Help Scout is a remote first company, with 110 employees working from 80+ cities all over the world to build helpful, human customer service tools. Our mission is to grow our world class team full of diverse, talented people that are united by an enthusiasm for great products and being helpful to others.  We’re also a Certified B Corporation!

As the Business Development Manager at Help Scout, you will manage and scale our first ever business development team. This is an opportunity to build an all-new channel from the ground up to help us lead the SMB segment of the market.

About the role

  • While results are important, caring for the brand is paramount. Our success is dependent on being creative, always doing right by the customer, and building a brand that stands the test of time. We have your back on this and won’t ask you to do anything that compromises our long-term success.

About you

  • You’ve sold B2B software before and have been a successful quota-carrying, new business sales rep in a closing role (e.g. Account Executive).
  • You love coaching and mentoring others. The process of helping individuals develop professionally and make progress in their career is deeply rewarding work for you.
  • You thrive in a changing environment and can adapt quickly based on new data, changing trends, and customer needs. Optimizing systems and practices to deliver better results are really fun challenges for you.
  • You are an excellent communicator that can build a thriving team in a“remote first” company like Help Scout. Setting your team up for success is all about building relationships and backing them up with clear written communication.

About Us
Help Scout is made by roughly 110 people in 80+ cities around the world, all with a passion for helping others.

Your work as an experienced Javascript Front-end Engineer will empower over 10,000 customer-centric businesses provide excellent service to people in the most human and helpful way, and will support the other senior engineers on your team.

Tools we use

  • React, Redux, CSS, Jest and Cypress are your tools of choice though you are capable of working with Backbone/Marionette and Sass while we continue to transition our remaining applications to React.
  • You will work with, and contribute to, our very own component-based design system.
  • In your day-to-day you will use tools like Slack, Jira, GitHub, Docker, Drone.io and Jenkins.

About the role

  • The engineering team is made up of about 50 people, most of whom work in one of 3 small cross-functional teams. These teams contain all the back-end and front-end talent to deliver exciting new capabilities.  You will be a Front-end Engineer working on the Docs Team. You will be collaborating with a dedicated designer, product manager, a Front-end Engineer, and  a Back-end engineer.
  • Our engineering teams work in two-week iterations, communicate mostly via Slack and are committed to remote, agile development. When you are ready, you’ll create and send a pull request with tests and tag your team for review using video and screen-sharing as needed. We have invested heavily in local Docker development and cloud-based continuous integration and delivery so you can get setup fast and your development branch can be easily tested on environments that closely match production. You’ll work autonomously for the most part and we trust you to get work done when/where you can be productive.
  • You’ll work with six other full-time JavaScript/ front-end engineers to maintain and improve Help Scout’s JS/ CSS standards and best practices. You’ll work with a design team with strong technical capabilities who are focused on creating scalable design systems and developing reusable interactive components across our projects. • You can work anywhere in the world as long as you have 4+ hours of overlap time with Boston, MA (9AM - 6PM ET).

About you

  • You have a love for design and are at your best partnering with designers to bring a project to life. You take designs created using Storybook and Figma components and transform them into fully-functioning production-ready code, making sure every pixel and interaction is perfect and up to spec.  You like owning the quality of the code you write — QA doesn’t mean throwing it over the wall for someone else to test.
  • You became an engineer because you like writing software that helps people.
  • You are a skilled, passionate, and humble engineer who is friendly, collaborative, and supportive.
  • You value personal growth and constructive feedback. Believing that“a rising tide lifts all ships,” you make everyone around you better sharing what you have learned and looking for ways to improve both yourself and the team.
  • You demonstrate an empathetic, organized and collaborative communication style with fellow engineers and non-engineering stakeholders. Clear communication is super important in a remote culture like ours.
  • Your code is a pleasure for your teammates to read and easily understood. When working in the codebase, you leave things better than you found them.
  • You believe remote teams are the future of work, or are at least excited about the idea.  You have experience working with remote teams or can adjust your work style to be remote-friendly.

  • Bonus points if you
  • Have worked with PHP, and are excited to learn more!
  • Have a love making a designers vision come to life.
  • Are interested in building inclusive, accessible websites.

  • You have basic knowledge of US employment laws such as COBRA, ADA, FMLA and other federal and state laws. You stay up to date through social media, trainings, conferences, or ongoing education. It’s icing on the cake if you have experience with(or a desire to learn about) international employment law.
  • You believe remote teams are the future of work. It’s a bonus if you have experience working with remote teams and have some idea of what policies and training help them succeed most.
  • To ensure sufficient overlap with your teammates, we're looking for candidates that live in UTC-5(East coast US) and UTC-7(as far as San Fransisco) time zones.
