python kubernetes react-js aws machine-learning javascript Jun 11

We’re looking for an experienced Full Stack Software Engineer to join the rapidly growing team in our University of Oxford machine learning start-up. We are a group of passionate and highly skilled individuals working together to achieve our vision of a future where AI and Humans collaborate to solve the world’s most important problems.

Location: We’ve been working successfully as a fully remote team during the pandemic and are open to this role being remote (within a (+/- 2hrs GMT), part-remote or office based as well as offering flexible working options. It is likely that many of our staff will choose to remain as remote workers going forward and so we are able to offer a fully inclusive and integrated team to anyone opting for a remote role.

ABOUT YOU
You will love getting stuck-in; taking ideas from concept through to production, making elegant and maintainable solutions to complex data-centric problems, and working with an awesome team of engineers building exciting new products.

Your passion for software engineering and product development will allow you to thrive in our start-up environment. Our collaborative, flexible and autonomous way of working will provide an excellent platform for you to grow, learn and explore new technologies and tools, whilst driving us forward to make our vision a reality.

ABOUT THE ROLE
You'll be working alongside our machine learning client team, supporting them by delivering expert advice and bespoke working solutions. You’ll also be working with the Product teams as we integrate new ideas into our machine learning platform or tackle a particular business need. You’ll be responsible for driving software engineering best practice at all times. Designing and developing features across all levels of web-based systems (full-stack) and rapidly prototyping, exploring and testing ideas. It will involve building and iterating on new features with users to help solve real problems.

We understand that there may not be such a thing as ‘the perfect candidate’ and no single person can do it all. However, if this sounds like you, or what you believe you can achieve, and you're looking for somewhere you can thrive, we would love to hear from you.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Strong technical skills across multiple levels of a web-app stack - we don't expect everyone to be an expert in every aspect of frontend, backend & devops, but you’ll need to have skills & experience across multiple levels.
  • At least 4 years of commercial software engineering experience across all parts of a software development life cycle
  • Experience working in an iterative Agile environment
  • Fluent with at least one of our core programming languages (Java, JavaScript/TypeScript or Python)

  • A degree in a technical discipline such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, etc. or equivalent commercial experience.

GREAT TO HAVE

  • Experience architecting and designing complex software systems
  • Experience working closely with users, working out what to build and why
  • Understanding of Machine Learning, AI or Data Science, including experience deploying ML in production or commercial applications
  • Familiarity with other technologies in our stack (protobuf/grpc, Apache Arrow, Parquet, Redux, AWS, Node)
  • Experience with modern numeric or big data frameworks, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Spark, Numba, Kafka

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
As well as joining a talented and fun team of scientists, engineers, storytellers and problem-solvers dedicated to innovation, ethical AI, the pursuit of knowledge and making the world a better place? Well, we believe in investing in our people, encouraging career and personal development through training programmes and performance assessments to help you to be the best at what you do and allow you to grow with the company.

You’ll enjoy a competitive compensation package, an awesome work environment in Summertown (Oxford, UK), if that’s where you choose to work from full or part of the time (or remotely). We have a strong social scene, even if by Zoom, and some of us can't wait to get back to our face to face team lunches, pub Wednesday's, office snacks and our sorely missed coffee machine, however we also offer great benefits such as:

  • Private healthcare (including dental and optical cover)
  • Pension
  • 25 days holiday (excl bank holidays)
  • An opportunity for equity in the company

Director of Data Platform Architecture

executive big data Jun 08
About Netflix:
Netflix is the world's leading streaming entertainment service with 208 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, documentaries, and feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can watch as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, on any internet-connected screen. Members can play, pause and resume watching, all without commercials or commitments.

Who we are:
Netflix strives to entertain the world by bringing our members joy and connecting them with compelling content. Our culture recognizes that this requires consistently good judgment, and to inform that judgment, we need to process a great deal of data. The Data Platform team is responsible for providing the infrastructure supporting all data within Netflix; this includes our Big Data platform, operational and unstructured data stores, data transport and processing layers, and reporting solutions, to name a few.

The challenge:
As Netflix’s business grows, we will have more data from multiple origins available for our users to analyze. That will make it even harder for our users to work with the data as it increases complexity. To meet the needs of our customers, we need to ensure we build a platform that gets out of the users’ way and just works with minimal effort, so they can focus on creating and providing the best content possible for our members. We need someone who understands how to build tools that unlock the value of our data, give guidance on which tools to create, and how they all fit together to provide a seamless experience.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate and drive the technical vision for the Data Platform (and the Platform in general).
  • Engage with multiple teams both inside and outside the Data Platform to work on the execution of the technical vision.
  • Drive architecture as a discipline within our group.
  • Have an eye for challenges arising at the seams and cracks of different technologies.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with our partner organizations, helping to align our technical efforts with external needs.
  • Clearly and crisply communicate architectural decisions, plans, and standards for the products we create and support.

Why you will succeed:

  • You have the gift of being able to see clear technical solutions to complex data problems.
  • You love data and don’t think it’s bizarre to be passionate about it.
  • You love to express your vision about where things could go, and enjoy lively, respectful discussions about technical topics.
  • Your communication skills (written and spoken) are something you pride yourself on. You understand, when communicating complicated ideas, less is more.
  • You are energized by large impactful initiatives that require alignment and coordination across many different technical organizations.
  • Once you’ve presented your vision, you know how to bring people along.
  • You care very deeply about creating teams that model psychological safety and inclusivity, where engineers can do their best work.
  • You understand that diplomacy and relationship building is as essential as a strong technical vision.
  • You value “simple” as a design goal and recognize that simple and easy are very much not the same thing.
A few more things about us:
As a team, we come from many different countries and our fields of education range from the humanities to engineering to computer science. Our team includes product managers, program managers, designers, full-stack developers, distributed systems engineers, and data scientists. Folks have the opportunity to wear different hats, should they choose to. We strongly believe this diversity has helped us build an inclusive and empathetic environment and look forward to adding your perspective to the mix!

Our culture is unique, and we tend to live by our values, so it’s worth learning more about Netflix here

We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join the rapidly growing team in our University of Oxford machine learning start-up. We are a group of passionate and talented individuals working together to achieve our vision of a future where AI and Humans collaborate to solve the world’s most important problems.

You'll spend an initial period with our Engineering team learning our methodologies and stack before moving to work alongside our machine learning client team, supporting them by delivering expert advice and bespoke working solutions for clients and potentially for onward deployment into our product solutions. You’ll also work with the Product teams as we integrate new ideas into our machine learning platform or tackle a particular business need. You should expect to work closely with platform-engineers to provide ideas and generally get stuck in to help make something work as it should.

  • Experience with at least two of the core technologies in our stack (React, Spring, Flask, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Machine Learning)
  • A degree in a technical discipline such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, etc. or equivalent commercial experience.

GREAT TO HAVE

  • Wider software engineering skills (e.g. scripting, ops, ui/ux, design, databases, etc)

You’ll enjoy a competitive compensation package, an awesome work environment in Summertown (Oxford, UK) for those who choose to be office/part-office based. We have a strong social scene, even if by Zoom, and some of us can't wait to get back to our face to face team lunches, pub Wednesday's, office snacks and our sorely missed coffee machine, however we also offer great benefits such as:

  • Flexible and remote working
  • Professional and personal development
  • Private healthcare (including dental and optical cover)
  • Pension
  • 25 days holiday (excl bank holidays)

At Atlassian, we’re committed to an environment where everyone has the autonomy and freedom to thrive, as well as the support of like-minded colleagues who are motivated by a common goal to: Unleash the potential of every team.
