Senior Web Platform Engineer
Medium
senior javascript css api Jan 16
At Medium, words still matter. We are building a place to foster reading and writing on the internet—a place where today’s smartest writers, thinkers authorities, experts, and storytellers can share big, interesting ideas; a place where ideas are judged on the value they provide to readers, not the fleeting attention they can attract for advertisers.

The Platforms team
The Platforms team is tasked with enabling our product engineers to quickly build a quality user experience. We do that by giving those teams tools and frameworks to build great user experiences.
Much of the Platforms team's recent work has been around shepherding new technologies into Medium's stack: We have a web client written in modern React (with hooks, if you're curious) and TypeScript. We have enjoyed adopting GraphQL to add clarity to our API, manage changing client needs, and take advantage of third party tooling like Apollo Client. We have a modern design system & styling framework using CSS-in-JS & Storybook. And we are growing our fleet of Go services speaking gRPC, deployed on Kubernetes, and released with our own K8s operator.

That's where you come in:
We're looking for Staff- or Principal-leveled engineers who like to:
Write software — That might be writing a new framework, making a design system component accessible, or writing a Slack integration that saves engineers time.
Support fellow engineers — We listen to product engineering teams and collaborate with them. After all, they're our users, and they're the ones who ultimately help Medium's users read and write things that matter. When we empathetically understand what they need, it makes us better at our job.
Advocate for & design solutions — We provide high-level technical design, strategy roadmap development, and technical architecture related to our web client.
Follow & engage with the community — We want to assure that our architectures are consistent with industry including scalability, availability, maintainability, and flexibility.
Understand technical debt — There are also some older and less glamorous technologies at Medium, too. Part of your responsibility will be enabling engineers to account for technical debt and make progress against it — all while building new systems and user features.

WHO ARE YOU?

  • You have a deep understanding of Javascript, the DOM, CSS, and the ecosystem of tools around them.
  • You are an expert in at least one modern web application framework (React, Angular, Vue, etc.)
  • You have 5+ years of experience writing software.
  • You want to learn from and teach your peers.
  • You work autonomously, are energized by missions and goals more than a specific list of tasks.

Nice, but not required:

  • You have 10+ years of experience.
  • You understand web accessibility and have shipped accessible products.
  • You have an understanding of React's internals.
  • You have experience on an infrastructural or platform team.
What makes Medium special
At Medium, we foster an inclusive, supportive, fun yet challenging team environment. We value having a team that is made up of a diverse set of backgrounds and respect the healthy expression of diverse opinions. We embrace experimentation and the examination of all kinds of ideas through reasoning and testing. Come join us as we continue to change the world of digital media.
Medium is an equal opportunity employer. We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us to request accommodation.

React/Node Developer
react-js firebase sass next.js javascript css Jan 10

Are you a kick-ass javascript developer tired of rushing through client work, instead yearning to dive deeper into a smaller number of projects? Do animations, interactions, and user experiences delight you? Are you disciplined enough to work in sprints, but also mature enough to work independently?

Undefined LLC is hiring a full-time React / Node developer to work on customer-facing and internal websites and web applications. Say goodbye to the agency or freelance rat race - you’ll be working exclusively on a small number of company-led projects and initiatives.

Our Projects

So what types of projects will you be working on?

  • A custom e-commerce site built in React and Next, powered on the back-end by Firebase and WordPress
  • A custom admin dashboard for a native app with more than 250,000 user accounts and 5,000 daily users, built in React and Next, and powered by Firebase
  • A shopify e-commerce site with a custom theme built on Shopify’s themekit and React
  • An app microsite built in React and Next, powered by Firebase
  • Various landing pages and microsites generally built in React and Next, powered by Firebase and/or WordPress as a CMS
  • Internal reporting and communication tools that may need some FED love

The Daily Grind

What’s a typical day for an Undefined developer? We work in sprints; so, you’ll be in daily communication with your dev team members and leadership. But we also work like animals; so, you’ll be free to focus on getting your work done. Your week will begin with a Sprint Planning Meeting, you’ll have daily stand-ups during the week, and it will end on Friday with a Sprint Review.

Though most of your time during the week will be working on tasks and bugs, you’ll have the opportunity to step up regularly (if that’s your thing) and be involved in higher-level design and direction decisions. We say “if that’s your thing” because some people love that, others don’t. And we want you focused mostly on what you love.

But What Am I Really Doing?

Sometimes, you’ll have an entire Sketch design and you’ll be building out the FED. Other times, you’ll have the basic design requirements (fonts, colors, etc) and some functionality requirements (credit card form, shipping address), and you’ll design and build the page or component in browser. Or maybe you're writing a script to traverse Firestore to pull some data.

Hey - we just added some new functionality to how subscriptions are set up or we’re building out the functionality to export customer lists from our admin portal. You’ll FED those components, and also bug fix them should something break or not work as expected.

Our Tech Stack

You must know React and Firebase. We use React heavily in our front end development. You must also be great - not good, great - with CSS, SCSS, or some similar styling. We currently use SCSS modules in React, so you should be comfortable with SCSS even if you want to convince us that something better exists.

You must also have a great - not good, great - eye for CSS animations, timings, transitions...everything animated in the browser. If we (or you) get a crazy idea to animate a user interaction or drop in a little delighter, you’ll be the one to pull it off.

Experience with WordPress and/or Shopify is a plus.

What You Need To Qualify

This is a full-time position or contract-to-hire position depending on your situation and needs. To qualify:

  • Must be a US citizen or resident alien
  • Proven work experience as a FED with React
  • Proficiency working in git and terminal
  • A portfolio and/or repo of actual work experience

How To Apply

Send us your details - we need to see your work and resume or similar doc. We’ll reach out to qualified candidates via email to ask some questions or for a phone conversation.

First, a bit about Avanoo

Have you ever wondered what the most successful people in the world have, that the rest of us don’t? No, it’s not a high IQ. And no, it’s not that they studied more than the rest of us at school. There are a whole host of attributes that these people embody, which are never taught in school. Things like perseverance, passion, laser-like focus, a positive mindset, and the list goes on and on.

Avanoo exists to help employees at Fortune 1,000 companies embody these attributes, through 3-minute-a-day video programs and deep analytics that help us understand what their people need the most and predict what sort of content can drive the most impact.

If the skills we learn in school are the applications we use to get through life, the attributes we help people embody at Avanoo are like the operating system.

We're doing quite well

We just completed our series A round of investment, grew more than 3x over last year, and unlike many companies in Silicon Valley, we're profitable.

We've proven over and over again that we can help enterprises drive real impact to their bottom line just through the magic concoction we've put together. For example, with one of our clients, they were able to directly connect millions of dollars in new product innovations after 2 years of working with us.

The bottom line is, we're scaling so fast that our existing dev team can hardly keep up!

What you'll be working on

That’s where YOU come in: Helping us sustain this incredible growth, by building out the platform. You’ll be helping us build out an enterprise-class analytics platform, which will pull data from a variety of sources, to help us track and show growth in human potential.

If being part of a team that is building the first-ever platform that tracks and optimizes the human operating system, then read on!

Remote Full Stack Software Engineer in CA, NV, OR, UT, WA
cs sql sql-server javascript css full stack Jan 02

We have too much money, and not enough code. We came into this money by selling a few new subscriptions to our SaaS application every month for over 16 years, with no investors or debt.

Our business is growing fast and we need to hire an additional developer to help us keep pace.  Today there are 11 people at our company, and more than 2000 customers who are paying us to help them run their businesses. We want to improve our products, build new products, and improve our internal infrastructure. But all of that is worthless if we’re not satisfied, happy, and have sane lives, too.

Here’s why I love working at Moraware:

  • We care deeply about quality of life, not global domination.
  • I get to talk to smart people that are my friends every day.
  • I get to make changes that impact the success of our business, and the success of our customers’ businesses.
  • We all have flexibility in terms of schedule, and what we’re working on.
  • I get to work on a variety of projects that keep me interested in the work.

Everyone in the company works remotely from home. Communication and collaboration are critical for us. We’re on Zoom with each other multiple times a day, to check in on progress, design a new feature, collaborate on how to structure some code, or to tell a funny story about what happened last night.  We also get together multiple times throughout the year to spend time collaborating together in person.

We're adding another member to our Development and Operations team.  Our Development and Operations team members spend part of their time working on building software and part of their time ensuring that our servers are running smoothly.

Some of the projects we are working on:

  • Adding new features to make our customers businesses run more efficiently
  • Creating new tools and improving existing tools to make life easier for our Support and Sales teams
  • Configuring new Windows servers occasionally
  • Installing Windows updates every month
  • Monitoring the servers for errors
  • Writing new stored procedures, or optimizing existing queries for SQL Server 2017

Our technology stack is C#, JavaScript, SQL Server, HTML5.

As a stable and profitable company, we offer all the expected salary, benefits, and vacation of any great employer.

If you love the things we love, and you are interested in the projects we’re working on, here’s what you should do. DO NOT send us a resume. I’m sure your resume is terrible, because they all are. Send an email to devjobs@moraware.com containing:

  • 3-10 sentences describing why you are proud of one project you have worked on
  • 3-10 sentences about why you are qualified to work on some of the projects we listed above
  • which of these 5 states you are living in: California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington

Moraware is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.  We are unable to sponsor H1-B Visa’s at this time.

Join one of our product teams and develop features with real value to a one-of-a-kind product management system used by 2000+ global companies. Join a team that's redefining what product management systems can be.

  • Languages: JavaScript, TypeScript

  • Databases: Postgres, Elastic, Redis
  • UI: React, react-router

  • You are experienced at building web apps and designing architecture that scales
  • 2+ years of experience building backend systems
  • Understanding of relevant design patterns (Domain Driven Design, GRASP, SOLID, micro-services)
  • You can design frontend architecture and are obsessed about performance.
  • You have experienced with mentoring and helping your teammates, doing code reviews and pair-programming
  • You have a drive to have editor and tooling perfectly set-up.
  • You fix things when you see they’re broken, instead of waiting for someone else to do it.
  • You could win a debate on tabs vs. spaces conducted entirely in English.
  • You live in Europe – as it's important for us to have the team in pretty much the same timezone

Remote

At productboard, we recently started building fully remote teams. It is, therefore, possible to join us as Fullstack engineer while being (almost) 100% remote. The expectation is that you will travel to Prague roughly every six weeks to collaborate with your remote team members in person, while also meeting other team members and learning more about the productboard culture. If you're interested in taking on this position remotely, make sure you tick off (most of) these requirements:

About productboard

  • We are backed by top Silicon Valley investors, giving us access to capital, networks, mentors, and markets
  • You’ll enjoy an exciting team atmosphere building a new and complex product
  • We iterate quickly and decisions are fast. You’ll have a voice in what we do and see the impact of your work
  • We have modern offices in Prague and San Francisco. Expect occasional travel to the US

Perks & Benefits

You'll join a diverse and talented team, with plenty of opportunities for personal growth, impact, and learning.

Senior Full Stack Developer
Quimbee
ruby full stack senior javascript html css Dec 30 2019

Description

Founded in 2007, Quimbee is one of the most widely used and respected study aids for law students. With a massive and growing library of case briefs, video lessons, definitions, and practice questions, Quimbee helps its members achieve academic success in law school. Quimbee can be accessed on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

This position is 100% remote. All you need is an internet connection and a quiet place to work.

Quimbee's tech team works on an agile process and has a great mix of seasoned web backend, frontend, and mobile developers. Quimbee's web and API platform is based on a monolithic Ruby on Rails application, and we make the effort to keep it updated to recent dependencies' versions. We're big believers on automated tests, and while we don't necessarily do test-first, CodeClimate rates both our maintenance and code coverage metrics with an A.

This position is to work primarily on our web platform with an emphasis on our frontend code (views, HTML, CSS, JS) but also helping on backend work (controllers, models, serializers, query optimization, etc) whenever that's needed, so we're looking for someone with a passion for frontend but who's no stranger to backend code.

Responsibilities

  • Design and write maintainable code following best practices, knowing that most of the time, good enough is better than perfect.
  • Help maintain and improve our frontend code, currently based on Slim, SCSS, Bootstrap, and plain JS with a mix of some jQuery. We're pushing to adopt RSJS on the JS front.
  • Help maintain and improve our backend code, including writing new features and adapting existing ones collaborating with our backend developers. We use Ruby on Rails.
  • Collaborate with teammates, the project manager, product, design, and QA teams during the whole SDLC, providing technical points of view, effort estimates, drafting or reviewing requirements, etc.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and be responsible for communicating progress on a regular basis.
  • Participate in scheduled planning, review, and retrospective meetings on a regular basis (via videoconferencing technology).

Task Examples Working with us, you could be asked to (solo or as part of a team):

  • Implement a new page from scratch from a new comp coming from our design team, leveraging existing HTML/CSS components when possible but implementing brand new ones when needed.
  • Take a raw, initial version of a new page or feature developed by our backend devs and "beautify" it by adapting its front-end code to reuse UI components and follow our style guide, in the context of our Ruby on Rails application. This requires a very good understanding of Rails' controllers and views conventions.
  • Review our existing JS code and refactor it to follow best practices.
  • Perform code reviews providing advice on how to improve code with a particular focus on Javascript.
  • Prepare and document reusable HTML/CSS/JS code components so that other developers can use them.
  • Setup a unit testing framework for our JS code and sponsor it among your teammates.
  • Work with other backend developers implementing a new API endpoint in Ruby serializing data in JSON for our mobile app.

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. computer science or related field
  • 5+ years of Javascript experience
  • 2+ years of Ruby on Rails experience
  • Excellent HTML & CSS experience (cross-browser compatibility, responsive media queries, flex, grid, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of the Javascript ecosystem (yarn, webpack, babel, etc)
  • Good understanding of SQL
  • Extensive Git (or similar) experience solving complex merging conflicts
  • Know how the web works under the hood: TCP, HTTP, DNS, IP, caches, etc.
  • Solid knowledge of OOP, software architecture, and design patterns
  • A deep understanding of the importance of building maintainable, efficient, clean code, while balancing that with the urgency of the business needs
  • Deep caring about uptime, performance, and reliability
  • The will to take responsibility for projects end-to-end from idea to completion
  • Fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with at least one programming language other than Ruby and JS
  • Familiarity with the concepts outlined in the Reasonable System for JavaScript Architecture
  • Experience working with Rails' server-generated JavaScript (SJR)
  • Experience working with JavaScript frameworks like Vue, React, Angular, etc.
  • Hosting apps in Heroku, monitoring and scaling them up/down
  • Implementing APIs for mobile apps
  • Implementing a SaaS application or with subscription-based businesses generally

Benefits

  • 100% remote. That’s one of the biggies. No more commute!
  • Profit share. We set aside a percentage of profits each year and then pay them out equally across the entire team.
  • Group health-insurance coverage.
  • 401k matching up to 4% (100% matching up to 3% and 50% between 3% and 5%)
  • Unlimited paid time off. Our philosophy is that if you feel you need time off (for example, because of overwork, sickness, personal matters, etc.) we’re not going to question that. We just ask that you don’t abuse it and that you give us at least two weeks notice if you plan to be away.
