  • Working closely with key business stakeholders to understand the analytical needs of the business and providing insight in a rapid, iterative, and collaborative process
  • Developing thoughtful reports and dashboards that help Operations teams improve their business decision-making
  • Identifying patterns in the analyses you conduct, and using those patterns to improve our tools and processes so we can deliver results more quickly and accurately
  • Sharing your domain knowledge with technical team-members who do not have an MA background
  • Communicating results to an audience of mixed technical backgrounds

Desired skills and experience:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment
  • 2+ years of technical work at a Medicare Advantage plan or service provider
  • Experience collaborating effectively with stakeholders
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with dashboarding and creating reports

  • Explore other data science products in the ecosystem (complementary and competitive) and help build integration PoCs
  • Define recommendations on content standards, needed improvements, and content gaps
  • Prioritize and document customer and user bugs to inform engineering efforts

The Challenge

We’re now looking for a Sr. Analytics Engineer (sometimes called a Data Analyst or BI Engineer) to build customer facing dashboards and support internal stakeholders such as Data Science, Product, Sales, and Marketing.  We are specifically looking for someone well into their career with solid engineering skills and a desire to transform customers financial data into actionable insights.

Overview

Our mission is to build financial management technologies that enable the world’s most important companies to grow more quickly in a sustainable way that’s good for people, the planet, and business.
When companies have strong cash flow performance they can shift from short-term acrobatics to long-term growth and innovation. These are the teams that change the world by being freed to optimize for all of their stakeholders, including their employees, business partners, and environment.

The Opportunity

Cash flow is the toughest financial statement to understand but it’s fundamental to funding your own growth. We build the most intuitive and actionable tools for companies to optimize cash flow performance. Our platform analyzes billions of dollars of B2B transactions each year, users spend 70% of their workday in Tesorio, and we save finance teams thousands of hours. As a result, they can invest more confidently and anticipate their capital needs further in advance.

We’re growing quickly and working with the world’s best companies and the largest bank in the US. We recently raised a $10MM Series A led by Madrona Venture Group and are backed by top investors including First Round Capital, Y Combinator, and Floodgate. Our team is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we have a diverse, distributed workforce across the Americas. We don’t believe that people need to sacrifice being close to their families and where they’d prefer to live in order to do their best work. This position would be joining the Data Science Team, in which the entire team is distributed.

Responsibilities

As a Sr. Support & Implementation Engineer at Pachyderm, you will be part of a small, elite, customer-facing engineering team (think Seal Team 6) devoted to solving challenging infrastructure and data platform issues for both our open source users and enterprise customers. This can be anything from debugging network issues to architecting complex machine learning pipelines to troubleshooting Kubernetes and Docker. This role is perfect for engineers who love working directly with customers and prefer to witness success alongside the user first-hand.

This is highly technical, mostly post-sales role focused on maximizing value for our enterprise deployments, but will also include working on PoCs, engaging with prominent OSS users, and being part of our broader customer success org. You will manage our customers through deployment, training, implementation of best practices, and ongoing troubleshooting. These projects can range from small projects at AI technology startups to fortune 100 enterprise implementations.

While you'll have direct access and support from our engineering team, you will also have ample opportunity to commit the core Pachyderm codebase yourself. As an open source project, detailed GitHub issues are great, but PRs are pure gold!

Your primary focus will be driving the support and implementation process, but you’ll also have direct exposure to our community of users via our open source support channels.  At Pachyderm, OSS user and customer feedback is major driver of our product roadmap and we believe that everyone within the company should experience that first-hand.

Pachyderm is just a small team right now, so you'd be getting in right at the ground floor and have an enormous impact on the success and direction of the company and product. However, this also means that you will support pre-sales, help align on goals and KPI’s and contribute to customer success. In addition to Support Engineering, our first few hires in these roles will also be doing some pre-sales Solution Engineering and Technical Account Management. We are currently looking for all three roles and as such, you are welcome to apply to one or more.

Finally, please do feel free to check out the product on GitHub as it’s open source!

We offer significant equity, full benefits, and all the usual startup perks.

Lead Developer/System Architect
javascript html data science linux wordpress backend Jun 26

About You: You are a full stack developer who is excited about developing from a clean slate (but for a business that has seen rapid and profitable growth), with significant experience designing and implementing back end architecture, who wants to build solutions for a mission-driven business that seeks to help millions of consumers (through the support of hundreds of thousands of real financial advisors) … then this is the job for you!

About The Role: Kitces.com is hiring a Lead Developer/System Architect to be responsible for architecting and developing the technology that underlies the Kitces.com platform (currently built on WordPress). We are preparing to rebuild our technology stack almost from the ground up (maintaining a WordPress front-end but an entirely new back-end), and require a full stack developer with significant architecturing experience. We need someone who has experience storing and retrieving datasets, building data warehouses, and setting up connections for data including APIs. While this is not necessarily a “big data” project, building for efficiency and future scalability are critical. You will be our first full time dedicated developer but will continue to work with contract developers who have experience on the platform.

We intend to build a “Kitces Member Database” (KMD) which will include information about our readers, the content they consume on site, CE programs they have taken, and trends in their usage of the platform. We will be collecting numerous types of data from various sources to create high level and detailed reports. This information will be used by our team to improve content, identify additional advisor needs, and to provide more targeted value to our readers. We want add more personalization into our customer experience.

Kitces.com is currently run on a WordPress platform with a few integrations including MailChimp, ActiveCampaign, and Zapier. We plan to keep our blog on WordPress, a new system needs to be created for our members who will be taking quizzes, watching webinars, accesses documents and other resources, and taking courses. Much of the membership functionality is managed by the Memberium WordPress plugin which we intend to replace.

Description/Responsibilities

This entirely virtually-based staff position (work from anywhere, no relocation required!) will report directly to the Director of Platform & Reader Experience, and serve as the Lead Developer for the Kitces.com technology platform. A major portion of this job will involve building out databases, datasets, and integrations. This job is about building functionality for for a customer data platform (CDP) by collecting, sorting, and reporting data (but not necessarily interpreting data; a data science background is not required), and will eventually entail connecting this data to future applications we will build for our readers, and expressed in our front-end WordPress blog.

We will rely heavily on you to help us determine what technologies we should use to build this new backend. Specific languages, databases, or other software have not been settled on so this is a great opportunity to set a totally new foundation for our application.

Further description of annual responsibilities are indicated below.

– Design, architect, and implement key pieces of backend technology

– Document code, APIs uses, and other backend systems

– Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies and processes to ensure the highest quality product platform

– Coordinate with the Director of Platform for sprint planning and task prioritization

– Participate in code review, testing, and debugging with team members

– Scope out and estimate projects to help the Director of Platform manage the product roadmap

Key Candidate Traits

The ideal candidate should be self-motivated enough to work in a virtual environment with limited supervision, have a strong sense for back end implementations including data and API integrations, reasonable familiarity with various technology tools and systems and how to think through their selection, implementation, and deployment, and a strong inclination for continuous learning and data-driven iterative improvement.

The following skills will be required:

– Has built efficient data architecture, including collecting and integrating data from external sources

– Understand how business requirements link to technology requirements

– Proven experience as a software architect

– Extensive experience in software development and coding in various languages (C#, .NET, PHP)

– Knowledge of database solutions, especially SQL

– Performed API integration and implementation

– Familiarity with Linux server environments

– Experience with HTML/CSS, JavaScript and UI/UX design

– Understanding of software quality and quality assurance principles

– Be able to plan ahead and implement solutions to solve long term problems

– Able to work with and lead other developers as our development team grows over time

The ideal candidate must also exhibit highly effective written and speaking communication skills and be able to engage with a virtual team effectively. Company projects are moved forward when stakeholders come together with the spirit of collaboration. As the company continues to grow, leadership and mentorship skills will be required when additional developers are onboarded.

Experience in Agile and Scrum is preferred.

Business intelligence experience is highly preferred, but not required.

Media industry experience is preferred, but not required.

Compensation/Benefits

– Base salary $120,000 – $150,000/year based on experience

– Available bonus up to 12% of base salary, determined by meeting key Members Section and other business metrics

– $3,000 budget for additional training/skills education

– $2,000 budget for technology hardware/software or related office materials

– $3,000 conference budget

Strong Generalist Who is Very Good at Python
aws python docker microservices infrastructure-as-code data science Jun 05

Conducto enables developers and data scientists to write, execute, visualize, and debug pipelines. We strive to empower users to go from pipeline idea to massively scalable and easily debugged execution with minimal friction. Conducto works equally well for quick exploratory data science research pipelines and mission-critical production devops pipelines. It scales seamlessly from a handful of tasks to millions. Almost every developer and data scientist needs to create pipelines, and we believe that no currently available tool solves that problem as generally or elegantly as Conducto.

Prior to forming Conducto, we spent 10 years building the software that powered one of the most successful algorithmic trading teams in the world. We were really, really good. We succeeded because we built a team of technically strong, driven generalists who were excited to solve challenging problems. We have re-created that dynamic with our core team at Conducto, and are excited to grow the team.

We need motivated developers who can think critically and are not afraid to learn. You don't need to be a domain expert in any area, but you do need to be rock solid in Python. This role primarily deals with PythonDockerLinux, and AWS.

Our team is currently spread across the United States, from the East Coast to Hawai`i, and we have been an all-remote company since we started.

If you are excited to:

  • work with a team of solid and driven generalists
  • build a highly available web app with non-trivial cloud infrastructure
  • find the balance between building beautiful abstractions and actually deliver a product
  • join a fast-growing and exciting startup

then we encourage you to apply to join us.

We don't care where you went to school or what companies you have worked at. We aren't impressed by big names and buzzwords. We care about finding people who are great developers, are passionate to build this company, and will lean-in to a warm and collaborative company culture. We hope you will be a good match for the team.

Application Process:
We have to be very selective as we do not have the bandwidth to interview many candidates. So, if you apply and your resume and cover letter pass our initial review, we will invite you to take an online coding challenge. We will be interviewing a small number of candidates based on the results of that challenge.

We encourage you to try out Conducto and welcome pipeline submissions if you do take the time write one.

Love Docker, Golang, and distributed systems?

Pachyderm is hiring distributed systems engineers to help us build out the core product -- a distributed version-controlled filesystem and data processing engine. You’ll be solving hard algorithmic and distributed systems problems every day and building a first-of-its-kind, containerized, data infrastructure platform.

While your primary focus will of course be building the core product, you’ll also have direct exposure to users and enterprise customers via our open source support channels.

You can of course check out the product on GitHub because it’s open-source.

We offer significant equity, full benefits, and all the usual startup perks.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working in distributed systems, data infrastructure, back-end systems or related development work.
  • Major contribution to prominent and related open-source projects are a plus or can be a replacement for work experience in some circumstances (e.g. You’ve been a student just finishing your degree)
  • While it is a bonus, experience with Golang is not a strict requirement. Programming languages are just part of your arsenal and we’ve found that great engineers have no problem learning new tools.
  • Must have strong communication skills when talking about technical concepts. Our interview process strongly tests for communication as we have a very collaborative work environment where many parts of the codebase interact in complex ways.
  • Things change quickly as our product develops and breaking down major features into smaller and more easily executable PRs is an imperative skill.

About Pachyderm

At Pachyderm, we're building an open-source enterprise-grade data science platform that lets you deploy and manage multi-stage, language-agnostic data pipelines while maintaining complete reproducibility and provenance. If you want to learn more about our grand vision, read what has become our "manifesto."

The Role

Love Go, Kubernetes, cloud deployment, and automation?

Pachyderm is hiring a DevOps expert to be a senior member our team to help improve infrastructure, deployment, and testing processes. Pachyderm has a rapidly-growing engineering team and we're long overdue for some major improvements to our internal infra and engineering methodologies. Your major projects will include:

- Develop our internal Go backend for the hosted platform
- Manage and maintain internal Kubernetes clusters and hosted Pachyderm clusters
- Optimize Pachyderm's CI to improve our development workflow and increase developer velocity.
- Develop Pachyderm's internal testing/benchmarking framework (probably in Go) to perform large-scale benchmarks on a regular cadence.
- Improve, test, script, and document the multitude of deployment options for Pachyderm's core product including all cloud providers and various permutations of on-prem k8s and object stores.
- Build standard monitoring, logging, and deployment (e.g. Helm chart) packages so that Pachyderm users can get up and running faster
- Work closely with our front-end, backend, and systems team to improve hosted cluster stability and uptime.

While your primary focus will be building and maintaining various internal systems, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to the core product and work directly with users/customers who have complex deployment environments.

You can of course check out the product on GitHub.

We offer significant equity, full benefits, and all the usual startup perks.

Qualifications

  • Some Golang or other programming experience is required. While much of the job is automation and scripting, our testing frameworks, product backend, and internal automation work (e.g. k8s operators/CRDs) are all written in Go.
  • 4+ years of experience building, maintaining, and automating distributed systems, data infrastructure, back-end systems or related infrastructure.
  • Expertise running and managing Kubernetes and Docker in one or more cloud providers, preferably as part of a large-scale, enterprise-class product related to storage, processing, networking and/or virtualization
  • Expertise running and managing build, test, and release processes for 10+ person engineering orgs
  • Must have strong communication skills when talking about technical concepts. Our interview process strongly tests for communication as we have a very collaborative work environment where many parts of the codebase interact in complex ways.

Site Reliability Engineer Who is Good at Python
python aws docker kubernetes networking sysadmin May 29

You are an ideal candidate if:

  • You design, configure, and maintain cloud infrastructure.
  • You have deep knowledge of networking, security, and linux.
  • You can debug your way out of any problem.
  • You have a bias for simple tools and simple solutions over the latest buzzy products.
  • You are a strong coder, and are proficient in python.
  • Most importantly, you strive for a deep understanding in everything you do.

So, if you apply and your resume and cover letter pass our initial review, we will invite you to take an online coding challenge in python. This challenge will evaluate your pure coding skills. We will be interviewing a small number of candidates based on the results of that challenge.

Solutions Architect
python data science machine learning api healthcare May 08
At Hyperscience, we use modern machine learning to turn documents into machine-readable data. Our customers receive a wide variety of documents, like life insurance applications, paystubs, utility bills, insurance claims, that must be processed quickly and accurately to better serve the people at these organizations, and their customers. Amazingly, this is all done manually today. We’re on a mission to change that! Our product is already delivering value to large, blue-chip organizations in financial services and insurance, and we see a massive opportunity to expand to more industries and automate more business processes. We are looking for people who are excited to help us build upon this foundation and vision.

While at first this may not seem like a priority for a machine learning company, we see a huge opportunity in great user experience. Machine learning itself is not a product. While it’s a fundamental piece of our technology, it still must live in an ecosystem and be used by people. Human-in-the-loop is a powerful feature that allows us to do things like process anything, provide feedback loops for generating accuracy reporting, and on-demand model re-training. Our product works with people, and for people.

We're looking to grow our Engineering Team with the addition of a Solutions Architect.

As a Solutions Architect You Will Be:

  • The technical point of contact for the Customer Experience team when deep technical questions or issues arise from installing or using our product.
  • Creatively troubleshooting and solving problems given details from customers even when the initial answer is unclear.
  • Managing around-the-world engineering resources to diagnose and fix high priority escalations across multiple time zones and locations, facilitating information flow between the Customer Experience team and engineering as necessary.
  • Participating in customer calls which require more technical expertise.
  • Involved in architecture discussions and decisions when implementing new product features.
  • Leveraging your systems knowledge to deliver fast and scalable software, starting from the design of the system through development and extension.
  • Helping improve our code quality by writing unit tests and performing thorough code reviews.
  • Designing easy-to-use programmer interfaces and tools that will be leveraged by other developers, including APIs for our clients' developers.

Desired Experience:

  • Degree in Computer Science or related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in building web-scale and/or enterprise-grade systems in different environments.
  • Strong ability to reason about data structures, complexity, and possible engineering approaches to a problem.
  • Experience with Python / Django is preferred, but experience with any mainstream language and framework is required.
  • Experience with distributed systems is a huge plus.
  • Experience with database systems, including SQL and/or NoSQL solutions is required.
  • Strong background in data science and mathematics is a plus.
  • Experience with customer service is a plus.
  • Experience with version control systems, preferably Git.
  • Experience troubleshooting remote systems in a customer-owned environment with limited access is a huge plus.

What You Will Achieve:

  • Within your first 30 days:
  • You will get acquainted and eventually be fully comfortable navigating the full codebase, the technology stack, the development processes and org structure within the company.
  • You will learn the product and will make your first significant, user-impacting contributions to one of our products.
  • You will get to know our ML domain, codebase, and practical applications.
  • You will begin to troubleshoot customer escalations as they arise.

  • Within your first quarter and beyond:
  • You will be an integral part of the team and a driven, focused self-starter who can navigate a certain amount of ambiguity, and who is not afraid to take a sizable chunk of functionality, analyze it, break it down, implement it and then assume ownership and responsibility over it.
  • You will be taking an active role in discussions about possible solutions, different approaches, API designs and more.
  • You will decide when to bring in additional engineering help as necessary to handle escalations as necessary and help facilitate information flow between CX and engineering.
  • You will contribute to shaping the way customer issues and requests are handled within Hyperscience.

Benefits & Perks

  • Top notch healthcare for you and your family
  • 30 days of paid leave annually to help nurture work-life symbiosis
  • A 100% 401(k) match for up to 6% of your annual salary
  • Stock Options
  • Paid gym membership
  • Pre-tax transportation and commuter benefits
  • 6 month parental leave (or double salary to pay for your partner's unpaid leave)
  • Free travel for any person accompanying a breastfeeding mother and her baby on a business trip
  • A child care and education stipend up to $3,000 per month, per child, under the age of 21 for a maximum of $6,000 per month total
  • Daily catered lunch, snacks, and drinks
  • Budget to attend conferences, train, and further your education
  • Relocation assistance

About Triplebyte

Triplebyte is transforming the way software engineers are hired. Our mission is to build an open, valuable and skills-based credential for all engineers. This is important because millions of people have skills (and deserve good jobs), but don’t fit the profile that recruiters seek. Another way of saying this is that talent is uniformly distributed, but opportunity is not. Our goal is to broaden the distribution of opportunity.

To do this, we have built a background-blind technical assessment and interview process, and we use it to find engineers and help them get jobs at 450+ top companies. Our rich understanding of candidates’ skills and propriety machine learning models enable us to find the right match between our candidates and partner companies. This is why companies like Apple, Dropbox and American Express trust Triplebyte’s technical assessment to identify the best engineers for their open roles and reduce the time and effort it takes to hire them.

We just raised a $35 million Series B and our team of 65 is growing quickly! Now is a great time to join as we're on an exciting growth trajectory. You will have lots of opportunities for taking on responsibility and developing new skills quickly.

We're an experienced team, the founders have each built and sold companies before. Ammon and Guillaume founded Socialcam (acquired by Autodesk for $60 million) and Harj was the first partner hired at Y Combinator since its founding.

We are rapidly growing our engineering team, we are looking for generalist, full-stack, frontend, backend, machine learning, and dev-ops engineers!

Building the best product

The Triplebyte engineering team is still rather small, only 8 people. We all went through the Triplebyte process :) We move fast, release new features daily and iterate quickly. Triplebyte is growing very quickly and the engineering team is fully dedicated to supporting that growth, in any way we can. We are a generalist engineering team, we work on anything that helps the company or other teams grow. We cycle through backend, full-stack and frontend work based on the most critical needs. All of us are encouraged to work on all those parts.

Our frontend is mostly in React/Redux. Our backend is in Ruby on Rails, Postgres and Redis. (We also use python with Tensorflow for all our data science work)

It doesn't seem like it, but we have built a LOT of software. We are a truly full-stack company and we are building a process that needs to be perfect ends to ends. We have software for engineers, for interviewers, for writers, for companies, for us, etc.. If that's any indication of scale, we crossed recently the 200 tables in our Postgres database :)

Join us and help us build the best product! We value initiative, productivity, and ownership.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary and stock options package
  • Open vacation policy
  • Employer paid health, vision and dental insurance
  • 401(k) plan with matching
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Daily catered lunches

Our Mission

We believe strongly in building a truly meritocratic, unbiased process for finding great talent. Even the best technology companies today still use where people went to college as a proxy for intelligence and ability. We're building a process that looks only at ability, not credentials, so we can have a future where everyone can focus on just learning and being good at what they do, not how they look on paper.

Every aspect of running a company has been improved over the last decade, except hiring. Most decisions are still made using amorphous terms like "gut feel" or "culture fit". They should be made using crisp data. Only a company specializing on this problem, using data collected from the hiring process at hundreds of companies, can solve it. That's the company we're building. Our mission is creating a scientific method for identifying great talent and intelligently routing it to the best place. Starting with software engineers.

The Company is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions on the basis of merit and business needs. The Company does not discriminate against employees or applicants (in any aspect of employment, including, but not limited to recruiting and hiring, job assignment, compensation, opportunities for advancement, promotion, transfers, evaluation, benefits, training, discipline, and termination), on the basis of any characteristic protected under applicable federal, state, or local laws.
