Remote Full Stack Jobs

Experienced Full-stack Rails Developer
ruby-on-rails jquery postgresql node-js sql-server javascript Apr 06

At BloodHub we are focused on helping blood centers and hospitals maximize the efficiency of their interactions.   Our project managers work closely with our customers to identify their business objectives.  These business objectives are then presented to the engineering team for implementation. As an experienced full stack developer you'll have latitude to present a solution you feel maximizes the business objectives while maintaining the integrity of the system.

Our team is remote and this allows engineers to work flexible hours at a place of their choosing.  We first try to put out any fires (there aren't many), quash bugs and then build features.  We lean heavily on test harnesses to minimize regressions and CI to maximize automation. We avoid meetings and regard email as a necessary communication tool.  The languages we use are mostly Ruby on Rails, Javascript, and CoffeeScript.  PostgreSQL is our main data store while MS-SQL is used for customer integrations. The tools we lean on are Cucumber, Rspec, GitHub and CircleCI.  Our migration to the Google Cloud platform is underway.

Your average day will start with checking in with the team and making sure no one has any immediate needs.  Usually there aren't any. You'll then be able to focus on your engineering tasks. As a full stack engineer this will include direct engineering work on the product, SQL based client integrations, code reviews and DevOps related work. You will be expected to make progress in a self-directed fashion without micromanagement. At the end of each day you should feel good about your work product, the company's direction and enjoy your free time.

You need to be eligible to work in the United States.  If you're interested please submit your resume. We will try to respond to all submissions.  Please be aware that there is a real human on the other end of this transaction so if you spam the job listing don't be surprised if you get ignored.

Density
react-js api python full stack javascript html Apr 04

When someone installs Density in a location, they get access to real time, accurate people count. The experience is magical to a customer, but the process involved in accomplishing it is complex. Density has counted 13 million humans, and that number is growing exponentially. We are seeking a talented backend engineer to help architect a suite of web-based products to transform that data into insight.

The software systems that support Density are foundational: our customer facing APIs and applications, our data ingestion pipeline, the systems that manage and orchestrate our fleet of devices, and the internal tools that keep our organization running smoothly. We put a high value on the infrastructure that supports our systems, and love approaching problems through research, prototyping, and experimentation. We are not afraid to embrace new technologies, but are mindful in what we choose.

As an organization, we understand the importance of design, focusing on fundamental problems, and decentralizing decision making. As an engineering team, we design, build, and test with simplicity and scalability in mind. As individuals, we take ownership in our work and decisions. We’re looking for someone with a deep understanding of the web who shares these ideals.

The successful full-stack engineer will be applied to a wide variety of systems that constitute the Density platform. The Density platform is large, and your breadth of engineering knowledge will be put to the test.

A few key pieces of our system include:

  • APIs and data-pipelines that process millions of events
  • Mobile applications that help customers get their sensors online
  • Engaging web applications that help visualize people-count analytics
  • Notification systems that act on a set of triggers
  • Internal tooling that we use for our deep-learning models

This position reports to Density's Director of Software Engineering.

What you'll work on

  • Lead development on internal and customer facing projects utilizing Javascript, React, Python, Django, Postgres, Redis, Kafka, AWS and other technologies
  • Build APIs and data delivery mechanisms for applications such as web dashboards, alerting & health systems, mobile applications, and third party integrations
  • React to customer needs and feedback through tight-looped, iterative development
  • Contribute to open source initiatives
  • Document and teach best practices across our stack

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years industry experience building backend and front-end applications
  • Experience with relational and non-relational datastores
  • Experience with building applications using ES6, React, and Redux
  • Strong background in HTML and CSS
  • Experience with data-centric applications, including analytics pipelines, report generation systems, and alerting & health systems
  • Experience testing full stack web applications using frameworks and tools
  • Strong writing skills, with experience crafting clear and concise documentation
  • A motivation for constant learning

Icing on the cake

  • Experience with statistical analysis and trend data modeling
  • Experience with container orchestration technology kubernetes or ideally Nomad
  • A deep appreciation for design
  • A strange obsession with counting people (or what you can do with the resultant data)

While we have offices in Syracuse (NY), San Francisco, and NYC, we embrace and have built a culture around remote work.

About Triplebyte

Triplebyte is transforming the way software engineers are hired. Our mission is to build an open, valuable and skills-based credential for all engineers. This is important because millions of people have skills (and deserve good jobs), but don’t fit the profile that recruiters seek. Another way of saying this is that talent is uniformly distributed, but opportunity is not. Our goal is to broaden the distribution of opportunity.

To do this, we have built a background-blind technical assessment and interview process, and we use it to find engineers and help them get jobs at 450+ top companies. Our rich understanding of candidates’ skills and propriety machine learning models enable us to find the right match between our candidates and partner companies. This is why companies like Apple, Dropbox and American Express trust Triplebyte’s technical assessment to identify the best engineers for their open roles and reduce the time and effort it takes to hire them.

We just raised a $35 million Series B and our team of 65 is growing quickly! Now is a great time to join as we're on an exciting growth trajectory. You will have lots of opportunities for taking on responsibility and developing new skills quickly.

We're an experienced team, the founders have each built and sold companies before. Ammon and Guillaume founded Socialcam (acquired by Autodesk for $60 million) and Harj was the first partner hired at Y Combinator since its founding.

We are rapidly growing our engineering team, we are looking for generalist, full-stack, frontend, backend, machine learning, and dev-ops engineers!

Building the best product

The Triplebyte engineering team is still rather small, only 8 people. We all went through the Triplebyte process :) We move fast, release new features daily and iterate quickly. Triplebyte is growing very quickly and the engineering team is fully dedicated to supporting that growth, in any way we can. We are a generalist engineering team, we work on anything that helps the company or other teams grow. We cycle through backend, full-stack and frontend work based on the most critical needs. All of us are encouraged to work on all those parts.

Our frontend is mostly in React/Redux. Our backend is in Ruby on Rails, Postgres and Redis. (We also use python with Tensorflow for all our data science work)

It doesn't seem like it, but we have built a LOT of software. We are a truly full-stack company and we are building a process that needs to be perfect ends to ends. We have software for engineers, for interviewers, for writers, for companies, for us, etc.. If that's any indication of scale, we crossed recently the 200 tables in our Postgres database :)

Join us and help us build the best product! We value initiative, productivity, and ownership.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary and stock options package
  • Open vacation policy
  • Employer paid health, vision and dental insurance
  • 401(k) plan with matching
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Daily catered lunches

Our Mission

We believe strongly in building a truly meritocratic, unbiased process for finding great talent. Even the best technology companies today still use where people went to college as a proxy for intelligence and ability. We're building a process that looks only at ability, not credentials, so we can have a future where everyone can focus on just learning and being good at what they do, not how they look on paper.

Every aspect of running a company has been improved over the last decade, except hiring. Most decisions are still made using amorphous terms like "gut feel" or "culture fit". They should be made using crisp data. Only a company specializing on this problem, using data collected from the hiring process at hundreds of companies, can solve it. That's the company we're building. Our mission is creating a scientific method for identifying great talent and intelligently routing it to the best place. Starting with software engineers.

The Company is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions on the basis of merit and business needs. The Company does not discriminate against employees or applicants (in any aspect of employment, including, but not limited to recruiting and hiring, job assignment, compensation, opportunities for advancement, promotion, transfers, evaluation, benefits, training, discipline, and termination), on the basis of any characteristic protected under applicable federal, state, or local laws.

Full Stack Web Developer at Art & Logic, Inc.
django python javascript vue-js full stack api Mar 02

Art+Logic is looking for Full Stack Web Developers to work with us on interesting custom software projects. We’ve been around since 1991, and we’re still going strong.

Our ideal developers thrive in the environment of variety and challenge that is inherent to custom software development, working with us in a long-term relationship over many projects for numerous clients.

Since we do custom software development, the skills and needs for each project can vary widely. This goes beyond just the languages we use, to the industries and problem domains we work in. We look for generalists; most importantly those who are excited to learn and take on new challenges. You can expect to grow both in your strength and your versatility when working here. We want to help you do so.

We work remotely all over the United States and Canada. We expect you to be able to work well on your own and comfortably with teams. You won’t have someone looking over your shoulder so you'll need to be communicative and reliable, and hold yourself accountable. We depend on each other.

Art+Logic is run by humans, who work and create using technology. Things can go wrong and we need to respond to the unexpected by being kind, considerate, fair, flexible, and calm. We treat our clients and peers as respectfully as we would like to be treated.

Here’s an example of some projects we’ve worked on recently, so you can better understand the wide range of projects and challenges we undertake:

  • Implementing a Django-based DoD CAC card login
  • Writing a data model layer using SQLAlchemy to provide an object-oriented view of a legacy relational database schema. This model layer provides all business rules and data integrity using advanced python3 features. This data model in turn serves a REST API (python-pyramid) consumed by an advanced single-page web application written with Marionette (Backbone)
  • Created Windows tablet application to communicate with client's modbus hardware and upload data to Python/Django/Vue webapp for analysis and display

What we want from you: (aka: skills)

We currently have a high demand for Python, specifically Django, and JavaScript web framework experience.

However, more important than that, we are looking for people who are curious and looking for opportunities to learn. People who like learning and creating on their own. Those who are able to drive themselves or even lead others when completing projects. Developers who are able to organize and express their ideas. Communication is paramount here.

Relationship Details:

We are looking for Contractors (1099) for long term open-ended relationships. Work hours are flexible; requiring reasonable overlap with normal working hours to support team communications, and not just nights and weekends. Our rates range from $35-$55/hour. We are ONLY looking for people in the United States and Canada.

We want you to enjoy working for us, and to be able to have a life outside of work. Since you're not commuting you can embrace the freedom of working from where you enjoy living, and use the saved time for your personal life and relationships. We don’t ask our developers to work consistently over 40 hours/week.

It’s important to us in the hiring process that we allow developers to demonstrate their abilities by actually developing something, because a list of previous employers or educational background aren’t always indicators of what someone can do. All applicants are asked to submit a solution to a programming challenge that emulates a task we might assign on a project.

  • Designing a deterministic lifecycle workflow for our next product offering.
  • Writing core platform code for a new feature, and unit tests for functionality.
  • Refactoring and improving existing code for performance and simplicity. For example, breaking a large method into smaller, more maintainable and easily tested methods.
  • Building command line tools to help network engineers better manage network state.
  • Researching additional ideas, you may have to improve the product/platform overall and sharing with the team.
  • Interacting with customers and/or sales on a bug in the software, quickly resolving it, and coordinating across the team to push a fix.

Senior Full stack Developer to take Lead on Web app
Pasion
full stack senior wordpress lamp frontend backend Feb 06
  • Location: 100% Remote (the team is based in Uruguay, Argentina and Colombia)
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Hours: 20 to 30 hours a week, according to your expertise and availability.
  • Salary: Appropriate to the level of experience. Negotiable to your expectations.
Our company

We are a small company—9 people—who focuses on providing online solutions for sex workers. We strive to give them platforms and tools to help them stay independent so they can reach their goals much sooner (and hopefully retire, if that’s their wish).

Our web app (LAMP) is working on 2 countries serving 1.400 customers and 600.000 visitors. We are working on enlarging the team to open 4 more countries by 2020 first quarter.

The company is self-funded, we have been in the market for five years now and we’ve been profitable all the way. This is the result of passion for web development and care for our customers.

Project

The project consists mainly on a custom made (PHP/JS) social network, using WordPress as the core for content management. Customers are able to create and manage accounts like they would on a site like Instagram.

Plus a few other extra functionalities, not only for customers but for customer service and admins as well.

Scope

While there are a lot of front end needs, most of the work will happen on the back end and private administrative sections.

The system is broken down into 18 modules, each as its own WordPress plugin.

We also rely on third party plugins for things such as image optimization, load speed and performance, cronjob handling, and the likes.

Our own theme handles mostly page templates and CSS.

The system is highly configurable and ready to be installed on different countries with different use cases.

We also have integrations with third parties for SMS notifications, and payment processing.

Developer Job Responsibilities

You will be taking the lead developer role in our company to replace our founder (me).

Besides keeping and eye over everything you’ll be improving existing features as well as creating new ones from start to finish.

You’ll also be helping us professionalizing things. The code is not the best, some things are rushed or patched. There isn’t any documentation explaining how the system works or which function does what. With time this may even result in re-designing and re-writing big chunks of code.

Expect to be spending some time learning how things work (of course you will have guidance along the way).

When the work load deserves it, we can talk about hiring junior devs to work with you.

Developer Job Duties

  • The position requires constant communication with colleagues.
  • Expertise and hands on experience with software development is needed to be successful in this position
  • Must be willing to learn LAMP and WordPress.
  • Strong grasp of CSS3.
  • Regular exposure to company management, as well as the authority and scope to apply your expertise to many interesting technical problems.
Your application

This is one of the most important roles in our company. If you’re ready to handle the responsibility and you’re passionate about building platforms for people to use, we’re waiting for you!

Summary or cover letter

Please lead with a couple sentences introducing yourself.

Explain why you want the role, why are you applying for it?

Go through each requirement and explain how you meet the requirement.

Please don’t list every technology you have ever come across, instead list the specific skills that apply to this job

The technologies you have used should be incorporated into the summary and career history as long as it’s relevant.

Github, Bitbucket and StackOverflow accounts

If you have a Github/Bitbucket/Stackoverflow account then please list it. If you contribute to open source projects, please add them. If you have an online presence that in any way supports the role you are applying for, please make sure it’s listed.

App store links or Websites you have worked on

If you have worked on mobile apps and they are any the app store, make sure you include the links to them. If you have worked on websites, include the URL’s. Don’t just include the links, add the specifics of exactly what you did on each project as described below.

Specific development work you actually did

Details matter. Let us know about the development work you actually did during each particular project or role.

  • What were you responsible for?
  • What technologies did you use and for what purpose?
  • Where you part of a team? Did you lead the team?
  • What did you learn most from the role?

Section for personal interests

Listing your interests outside of work helps to flesh you out as a real person.

We are also looking for someone who will enjoy working with us and enjoy taking the platform world wide.

There’s hundreds of thousands of sex workers out there that deserve the chance to manage their job (and their money!) on their own terms, and not what someone else dictates for them. Let’s help them out : )

You’ll be working with a small team to ensure the successful execution of our technology strategy. You’ll write good front-end and back-end code following best practices, including unit testing and code review. Your success on assignments will result from cultivating an ongoing relationship with operations, sales, marketing, technology partners and advertisers leveraging those unique insights to craft user experience.

Working with our tight-knit team, you won’t have to worry about big company bureaucracy or not having an impact. The first project you work on will be launched to the VNN network within two months of starting and the code you work on will be used by thousands on a daily basis.

Signs that you’re the one:

  • 2- 4 Years experience in PHP/MySQL
  • Ability to use various flavors of JavaScript (ECMA 5-10, working in AngularJS, React, NodeJS)
  • Ability to learn and script in various environments (Capistrano, Ansible, Shell scripts)
  • Bachelor’s degree (or other education/proof of knowledge) in a related/relevant field
  • Experience working in a Start-up environment

Remote Full Stack Software Engineer in CA, NV, OR, UT, WA
cs sql sql-server javascript css full stack Jan 02

We have too much money, and not enough code. We came into this money by selling a few new subscriptions to our SaaS application every month for over 16 years, with no investors or debt.

Our business is growing fast and we need to hire an additional developer to help us keep pace.  Today there are 11 people at our company, and more than 2000 customers who are paying us to help them run their businesses. We want to improve our products, build new products, and improve our internal infrastructure. But all of that is worthless if we’re not satisfied, happy, and have sane lives, too.

Here’s why I love working at Moraware:

  • We care deeply about quality of life, not global domination.
  • I get to talk to smart people that are my friends every day.
  • I get to make changes that impact the success of our business, and the success of our customers’ businesses.
  • We all have flexibility in terms of schedule, and what we’re working on.
  • I get to work on a variety of projects that keep me interested in the work.

Everyone in the company works remotely from home. Communication and collaboration are critical for us. We’re on Zoom with each other multiple times a day, to check in on progress, design a new feature, collaborate on how to structure some code, or to tell a funny story about what happened last night.  We also get together multiple times throughout the year to spend time collaborating together in person.

We're adding another member to our Development and Operations team.  Our Development and Operations team members spend part of their time working on building software and part of their time ensuring that our servers are running smoothly.

Some of the projects we are working on:

  • Adding new features to make our customers businesses run more efficiently
  • Creating new tools and improving existing tools to make life easier for our Support and Sales teams
  • Configuring new Windows servers occasionally
  • Installing Windows updates every month
  • Monitoring the servers for errors
  • Writing new stored procedures, or optimizing existing queries for SQL Server 2017

Our technology stack is C#, JavaScript, SQL Server, HTML5.

As a stable and profitable company, we offer all the expected salary, benefits, and vacation of any great employer.

If you love the things we love, and you are interested in the projects we’re working on, here’s what you should do. DO NOT send us a resume. I’m sure your resume is terrible, because they all are. Send an email to devjobs@moraware.com containing:

  • 3-10 sentences describing why you are proud of one project you have worked on
  • 3-10 sentences about why you are qualified to work on some of the projects we listed above
  • which of these 5 states you are living in: California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington

Moraware is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.  We are unable to sponsor H1-B Visa’s at this time.

Senior Full Stack Developer
Quimbee
ruby full stack senior javascript html css Dec 30 2019

Description

Founded in 2007, Quimbee is one of the most widely used and respected study aids for law students. With a massive and growing library of case briefs, video lessons, definitions, and practice questions, Quimbee helps its members achieve academic success in law school. Quimbee can be accessed on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

This position is 100% remote. All you need is an internet connection and a quiet place to work.

Quimbee's tech team works on an agile process and has a great mix of seasoned web backend, frontend, and mobile developers. Quimbee's web and API platform is based on a monolithic Ruby on Rails application, and we make the effort to keep it updated to recent dependencies' versions. We're big believers on automated tests, and while we don't necessarily do test-first, CodeClimate rates both our maintenance and code coverage metrics with an A.

This position is to work primarily on our web platform with an emphasis on our frontend code (views, HTML, CSS, JS) but also helping on backend work (controllers, models, serializers, query optimization, etc) whenever that's needed, so we're looking for someone with a passion for frontend but who's no stranger to backend code.

Responsibilities

  • Design and write maintainable code following best practices, knowing that most of the time, good enough is better than perfect.
  • Help maintain and improve our frontend code, currently based on Slim, SCSS, Bootstrap, and plain JS with a mix of some jQuery. We're pushing to adopt RSJS on the JS front.
  • Help maintain and improve our backend code, including writing new features and adapting existing ones collaborating with our backend developers. We use Ruby on Rails.
  • Collaborate with teammates, the project manager, product, design, and QA teams during the whole SDLC, providing technical points of view, effort estimates, drafting or reviewing requirements, etc.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and be responsible for communicating progress on a regular basis.
  • Participate in scheduled planning, review, and retrospective meetings on a regular basis (via videoconferencing technology).

Task Examples Working with us, you could be asked to (solo or as part of a team):

  • Implement a new page from scratch from a new comp coming from our design team, leveraging existing HTML/CSS components when possible but implementing brand new ones when needed.
  • Take a raw, initial version of a new page or feature developed by our backend devs and "beautify" it by adapting its front-end code to reuse UI components and follow our style guide, in the context of our Ruby on Rails application. This requires a very good understanding of Rails' controllers and views conventions.
  • Review our existing JS code and refactor it to follow best practices.
  • Perform code reviews providing advice on how to improve code with a particular focus on Javascript.
  • Prepare and document reusable HTML/CSS/JS code components so that other developers can use them.
  • Setup a unit testing framework for our JS code and sponsor it among your teammates.
  • Work with other backend developers implementing a new API endpoint in Ruby serializing data in JSON for our mobile app.

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. computer science or related field
  • 5+ years of Javascript experience
  • 2+ years of Ruby on Rails experience
  • Excellent HTML & CSS experience (cross-browser compatibility, responsive media queries, flex, grid, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of the Javascript ecosystem (yarn, webpack, babel, etc)
  • Good understanding of SQL
  • Extensive Git (or similar) experience solving complex merging conflicts
  • Know how the web works under the hood: TCP, HTTP, DNS, IP, caches, etc.
  • Solid knowledge of OOP, software architecture, and design patterns
  • A deep understanding of the importance of building maintainable, efficient, clean code, while balancing that with the urgency of the business needs
  • Deep caring about uptime, performance, and reliability
  • The will to take responsibility for projects end-to-end from idea to completion
  • Fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with at least one programming language other than Ruby and JS
  • Familiarity with the concepts outlined in the Reasonable System for JavaScript Architecture
  • Experience working with Rails' server-generated JavaScript (SJR)
  • Experience working with JavaScript frameworks like Vue, React, Angular, etc.
  • Hosting apps in Heroku, monitoring and scaling them up/down
  • Implementing APIs for mobile apps
  • Implementing a SaaS application or with subscription-based businesses generally

Benefits

  • 100% remote. That’s one of the biggies. No more commute!
  • Profit share. We set aside a percentage of profits each year and then pay them out equally across the entire team.
  • Group health-insurance coverage.
  • 401k matching up to 4% (100% matching up to 3% and 50% between 3% and 5%)
  • Unlimited paid time off. Our philosophy is that if you feel you need time off (for example, because of overwork, sickness, personal matters, etc.) we’re not going to question that. We just ask that you don’t abuse it and that you give us at least two weeks notice if you plan to be away.

While some choose to focus on a single area of expertise (either UI, UX, or front-end development), this role encompasses all of those areas; making for a rare designer-developer hybrid. For you to find the right candidate, it’s important to understand how these three areas of expertise overlap and connect.  In addition, an understanding analytics is important to understand how to identify points of friction, and to optimize process flow.

User experience (UX) design is centered around the satisfaction the user experiences with your software. Front-end development is the technical implementation of the software’s user interface (UI). UI design is the graphical bridge that connects the two. Having these three areas working together seamlessly is the key to happy users and happy upper management alike.

As human interaction with digital products continues to change, so too do the skillsets and tools used by front-end design and development experts. Adaptability and self-growth traits are key.

Please submit a sample portfolio as well.
