Senior Frontend-leaning Full Stack Engineer
python javascript vue-js networking angular-js full stack Feb 16

Description
As a well rounded software engineer, you should definitely be the type that appreciates diversity in your day, and challenges outside of your comfort level! A typical day in the life of a PacketFabric senior software engineer might include these types of activities:

  • Designing a deterministic lifecycle workflow for our next product offering.
  • Writing core platform code for a new feature, and unit tests for functionality.
  • Refactoring and improving existing code for performance and simplicity. For example, breaking a large method into smaller, more maintainable and easily tested methods.
  • Building command line tools to help network engineers better manage network state.
  • Researching additional ideas, you may have to improve the product/platform overall and sharing with the team.
  • Interacting with customers and/or sales on a bug in the software, quickly resolving it, and coordinating across the team to push a fix.
  • Working with backend engineers and discussing quirks in network protocols and network interconnection which translate rapid API and UI changes.

Requirements
The right candidate will have an abundance of hard core programming skills, have solid instincts for API usability, design patterns and creating beautiful functional web applications. You are probably a full stack developer who naturally gravitates towards front end work. You know how to sacrifice algorithmic elegance for getting it done on deadline. More specifics include:

  • Extensive experience with Python and PHP in large applications developed in a team environment.
  • Expert unit tester.
  • Experience in large scale distributed systems.
  • Extensive SQL experience.
  • Extensive experience with the HTTP protocol and developing and using RESTful APIs.

  • Very comfortable using Git in a team environment (i.e. pull-requests, branch management, rebasing).
  • Experience working in an environment leveraging remote communication collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom etc.
  • Never being afraid to venture boldly where none have gone before and develop code where there are no previous libraries to draw from.

Preferred Experience

  • A huge plus for actually doing any router/switch configuration or infrastructure automation.
  • Experience with Python-based web application frameworks like Flask, Django, or Sanic
  • Experience writing code that interacts asynchronously with detailed APIs on complex logic flows.
  • Any experience interacting with physical world equipment - industrial, medical, etc

Senior Full stack Developer to take Lead on Web app
Pasion
full stack senior wordpress lamp frontend backend Feb 06
  • Location: 100% Remote (the team is based in Uruguay, Argentina and Colombia)
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Hours: 20 to 30 hours a week, according to your expertise and availability.
  • Salary: Appropriate to the level of experience. Negotiable to your expectations.
Our company

We are a small company—9 people—who focuses on providing online solutions for sex workers. We strive to give them platforms and tools to help them stay independent so they can reach their goals much sooner (and hopefully retire, if that’s their wish).

Our web app (LAMP) is working on 2 countries serving 1.400 customers and 600.000 visitors. We are working on enlarging the team to open 4 more countries by 2020 first quarter.

The company is self-funded, we have been in the market for five years now and we’ve been profitable all the way. This is the result of passion for web development and care for our customers.

Project

The project consists mainly on a custom made (PHP/JS) social network, using WordPress as the core for content management. Customers are able to create and manage accounts like they would on a site like Instagram.

Plus a few other extra functionalities, not only for customers but for customer service and admins as well.

Scope

While there are a lot of front end needs, most of the work will happen on the back end and private administrative sections.

The system is broken down into 18 modules, each as its own WordPress plugin.

We also rely on third party plugins for things such as image optimization, load speed and performance, cronjob handling, and the likes.

Our own theme handles mostly page templates and CSS.

The system is highly configurable and ready to be installed on different countries with different use cases.

We also have integrations with third parties for SMS notifications, and payment processing.

Developer Job Responsibilities

You will be taking the lead developer role in our company to replace our founder (me).

Besides keeping and eye over everything you’ll be improving existing features as well as creating new ones from start to finish.

You’ll also be helping us professionalizing things. The code is not the best, some things are rushed or patched. There isn’t any documentation explaining how the system works or which function does what. With time this may even result in re-designing and re-writing big chunks of code.

Expect to be spending some time learning how things work (of course you will have guidance along the way).

When the work load deserves it, we can talk about hiring junior devs to work with you.

Developer Job Duties

  • The position requires constant communication with colleagues.
  • Expertise and hands on experience with software development is needed to be successful in this position
  • Must be willing to learn LAMP and WordPress.
  • Strong grasp of CSS3.
  • Regular exposure to company management, as well as the authority and scope to apply your expertise to many interesting technical problems.
Your application

This is one of the most important roles in our company. If you’re ready to handle the responsibility and you’re passionate about building platforms for people to use, we’re waiting for you!

Summary or cover letter

Please lead with a couple sentences introducing yourself.

Explain why you want the role, why are you applying for it?

Go through each requirement and explain how you meet the requirement.

Please don’t list every technology you have ever come across, instead list the specific skills that apply to this job

The technologies you have used should be incorporated into the summary and career history as long as it’s relevant.

Github, Bitbucket and StackOverflow accounts

If you have a Github/Bitbucket/Stackoverflow account then please list it. If you contribute to open source projects, please add them. If you have an online presence that in any way supports the role you are applying for, please make sure it’s listed.

App store links or Websites you have worked on

If you have worked on mobile apps and they are any the app store, make sure you include the links to them. If you have worked on websites, include the URL’s. Don’t just include the links, add the specifics of exactly what you did on each project as described below.

Specific development work you actually did

Details matter. Let us know about the development work you actually did during each particular project or role.

  • What were you responsible for?
  • What technologies did you use and for what purpose?
  • Where you part of a team? Did you lead the team?
  • What did you learn most from the role?

Section for personal interests

Listing your interests outside of work helps to flesh you out as a real person.

We are also looking for someone who will enjoy working with us and enjoy taking the platform world wide.

There’s hundreds of thousands of sex workers out there that deserve the chance to manage their job (and their money!) on their own terms, and not what someone else dictates for them. Let’s help them out : )

Remote Full Stack Software Engineer in CA, NV, OR, UT, WA
cs sql sql-server javascript css full stack Jan 02

We have too much money, and not enough code. We came into this money by selling a few new subscriptions to our SaaS application every month for over 16 years, with no investors or debt.

Our business is growing fast and we need to hire an additional developer to help us keep pace.  Today there are 11 people at our company, and more than 2000 customers who are paying us to help them run their businesses. We want to improve our products, build new products, and improve our internal infrastructure. But all of that is worthless if we’re not satisfied, happy, and have sane lives, too.

Here’s why I love working at Moraware:

  • We care deeply about quality of life, not global domination.
  • I get to talk to smart people that are my friends every day.
  • I get to make changes that impact the success of our business, and the success of our customers’ businesses.
  • We all have flexibility in terms of schedule, and what we’re working on.
  • I get to work on a variety of projects that keep me interested in the work.

Everyone in the company works remotely from home. Communication and collaboration are critical for us. We’re on Zoom with each other multiple times a day, to check in on progress, design a new feature, collaborate on how to structure some code, or to tell a funny story about what happened last night.  We also get together multiple times throughout the year to spend time collaborating together in person.

We're adding another member to our Development and Operations team.  Our Development and Operations team members spend part of their time working on building software and part of their time ensuring that our servers are running smoothly.

Some of the projects we are working on:

  • Adding new features to make our customers businesses run more efficiently
  • Creating new tools and improving existing tools to make life easier for our Support and Sales teams
  • Configuring new Windows servers occasionally
  • Installing Windows updates every month
  • Monitoring the servers for errors
  • Writing new stored procedures, or optimizing existing queries for SQL Server 2017

Our technology stack is C#, JavaScript, SQL Server, HTML5.

As a stable and profitable company, we offer all the expected salary, benefits, and vacation of any great employer.

If you love the things we love, and you are interested in the projects we’re working on, here’s what you should do. DO NOT send us a resume. I’m sure your resume is terrible, because they all are. Send an email to devjobs@moraware.com containing:

  • 3-10 sentences describing why you are proud of one project you have worked on
  • 3-10 sentences about why you are qualified to work on some of the projects we listed above
  • which of these 5 states you are living in: California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington

Moraware is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.  We are unable to sponsor H1-B Visa’s at this time.

Senior Full Stack Developer
Quimbee
ruby full stack senior javascript html css Dec 30 2019

Description

Founded in 2007, Quimbee is one of the most widely used and respected study aids for law students. With a massive and growing library of case briefs, video lessons, definitions, and practice questions, Quimbee helps its members achieve academic success in law school. Quimbee can be accessed on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

This position is 100% remote. All you need is an internet connection and a quiet place to work.

Quimbee's tech team works on an agile process and has a great mix of seasoned web backend, frontend, and mobile developers. Quimbee's web and API platform is based on a monolithic Ruby on Rails application, and we make the effort to keep it updated to recent dependencies' versions. We're big believers on automated tests, and while we don't necessarily do test-first, CodeClimate rates both our maintenance and code coverage metrics with an A.

This position is to work primarily on our web platform with an emphasis on our frontend code (views, HTML, CSS, JS) but also helping on backend work (controllers, models, serializers, query optimization, etc) whenever that's needed, so we're looking for someone with a passion for frontend but who's no stranger to backend code.

Responsibilities

  • Design and write maintainable code following best practices, knowing that most of the time, good enough is better than perfect.
  • Help maintain and improve our frontend code, currently based on Slim, SCSS, Bootstrap, and plain JS with a mix of some jQuery. We're pushing to adopt RSJS on the JS front.
  • Help maintain and improve our backend code, including writing new features and adapting existing ones collaborating with our backend developers. We use Ruby on Rails.
  • Collaborate with teammates, the project manager, product, design, and QA teams during the whole SDLC, providing technical points of view, effort estimates, drafting or reviewing requirements, etc.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and be responsible for communicating progress on a regular basis.
  • Participate in scheduled planning, review, and retrospective meetings on a regular basis (via videoconferencing technology).

Task Examples Working with us, you could be asked to (solo or as part of a team):

  • Implement a new page from scratch from a new comp coming from our design team, leveraging existing HTML/CSS components when possible but implementing brand new ones when needed.
  • Take a raw, initial version of a new page or feature developed by our backend devs and "beautify" it by adapting its front-end code to reuse UI components and follow our style guide, in the context of our Ruby on Rails application. This requires a very good understanding of Rails' controllers and views conventions.
  • Review our existing JS code and refactor it to follow best practices.
  • Perform code reviews providing advice on how to improve code with a particular focus on Javascript.
  • Prepare and document reusable HTML/CSS/JS code components so that other developers can use them.
  • Setup a unit testing framework for our JS code and sponsor it among your teammates.
  • Work with other backend developers implementing a new API endpoint in Ruby serializing data in JSON for our mobile app.

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. computer science or related field
  • 5+ years of Javascript experience
  • 2+ years of Ruby on Rails experience
  • Excellent HTML & CSS experience (cross-browser compatibility, responsive media queries, flex, grid, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of the Javascript ecosystem (yarn, webpack, babel, etc)
  • Good understanding of SQL
  • Extensive Git (or similar) experience solving complex merging conflicts
  • Know how the web works under the hood: TCP, HTTP, DNS, IP, caches, etc.
  • Solid knowledge of OOP, software architecture, and design patterns
  • A deep understanding of the importance of building maintainable, efficient, clean code, while balancing that with the urgency of the business needs
  • Deep caring about uptime, performance, and reliability
  • The will to take responsibility for projects end-to-end from idea to completion
  • Fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with at least one programming language other than Ruby and JS
  • Familiarity with the concepts outlined in the Reasonable System for JavaScript Architecture
  • Experience working with Rails' server-generated JavaScript (SJR)
  • Experience working with JavaScript frameworks like Vue, React, Angular, etc.
  • Hosting apps in Heroku, monitoring and scaling them up/down
  • Implementing APIs for mobile apps
  • Implementing a SaaS application or with subscription-based businesses generally

Benefits

  • 100% remote. That’s one of the biggies. No more commute!
  • Profit share. We set aside a percentage of profits each year and then pay them out equally across the entire team.
  • Group health-insurance coverage.
  • 401k matching up to 4% (100% matching up to 3% and 50% between 3% and 5%)
  • Unlimited paid time off. Our philosophy is that if you feel you need time off (for example, because of overwork, sickness, personal matters, etc.) we’re not going to question that. We just ask that you don’t abuse it and that you give us at least two weeks notice if you plan to be away.

Team Happiness Engineer
Balena

On being a Team Happiness Engineer at balena

At balena, we spend a lot of time working to ensure that our team is cared for. As our team grows, we want to make sure that this is the case, which means working on interesting and rewarding challenges!

One of our priorities in terms of team happiness is to optimise team scheduling. We’re a remote-first company distributed across many continents, and as a result, scheduling meetings and ensuring we always have engineers available to support our users is a difficult challenge.

We believe it’s important to ensure that every member of the team is able to choose their working hours and maintain a healthy work-life balance, which means taking these parameters into account when scheduling.

As you may have read on our blog, we achieve this through the use of advanced constraint programming algorithms. This turns a task which would be tedious and inefficient to do by hand into a rewarding mathematical challenge which simultaneously results in a better and more flexible outcome for our team.

Algorithmic scheduling is of course just one example of pain reduction for the team. We have more ideas on how tools like constraint solvers can be applied to boost team happiness and success, for example the optimisation of team activities and professional development.

We are looking for a full stack “team happiness” engineer to join us in this venture by innovating and implementing engineering solutions to reduce discomfort and friction across our team. We can’t wait to see what you can come up with!

Requirements

  • Extremely good problem-solving abilities. You know how to split a complex problem into incremental pieces.
  • The software engineering skills to implement these solutions programmatically.
  • The ability to execute and complete software projects.
  • Good understanding of software engineering practices and how to apply them (e.g. version control, tests, descriptive commit messages).
  • Self-motivation to find the best possible outcome from a myriad of options.
  • Desire to make yourself and others more effective; you’d be bothered by an inefficient process.
  • Excellent written communication skills, and fluency in English.
  • The ability to work remotely, with a remote team around the world.
  • The candour to question the status quo.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Linux, TypeScript, JavaScript frameworks, Python, HTML/CSS and databases
  • Experience with Google Sheets, Google Apps Script, and managing projects on the Google Cloud Platform.
  • A good understanding of git and GitHub.
  • An interest in mathematical modelling, optimisation and constraint solvers.
  • A sample of your work (URL or attached sample).
  • Experience in a full stack developer role.
  • Having worked remotely before.

About working at balena

We come from 15+ countries, and we embrace a remote culture with flexible hours. To us, this means being highly productive while still maintaining a healthy work-life balance. You need to be able to work remotely, and have a dependable internet access available so you can join video calls.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity. We value knowledge and initiative more than educational and personal backgrounds, age, or location. We maintain a work environment in which team members are treated with respect at all times and in which thoughts and ideas can be shared openly.

We communicate proposals, discuss with others in the team and accept feedback if it makes the result better. We value the ability to learn, which is more important to us than knowledge of specific technologies. We know that learning fast means being outside our comfort zone, which is OK — we'd rather learn than let our assumptions get in our way.

Benefits

  • Work with an extremely talented, diverse team
  • Equipment of your choice
  • Remote-friendly
  • Flexible working hours
  • Generous vacation policy
  • Annual company gathering in an international location
  • We send you hardware for side projects!

What We Do

The team at MapLarge builds cutting edge products for data analytics and visualization to make us safer, more productive, and more efficient.  The Maplarge API provides real time geospatial analytics for over 15 billion location events per day and trillions of historical events. Analysts using our geospatial visualization capability can instantly visualize and publish for data discovery and model testing on any desktop, mobile or tablet device.

Who We Need

Cultural Fit - While we hire all kinds of people and invent roles to fit them, there are three key traits we require of every team member that really define our team.

  1.  Fun to Work With - Life is short and work should be fun.

  2.  Extremely Smart - We work on cutting edge hard problems and we need people who can both architect and code these systems at the same time while working with a highly intelligent peer group.

  3. Passionate Engineers - We need people who really love programming and exhibit the energy and creativity that comes from being fully engaged in what you do.

Skills & Requirements

Types of Roles

We need talented people to help add cool new features to our platform.  Below are the general categories of tasks we are working on, but often people straddle multiple areas so take them more as the general "gist" of what you might do with us. We are looking for smart, hard working, fun people and we will invent the right role to fit them.  The key trait we are looking for is people who like to both architect/design and write the code for complex systems.

(1) Client Side - Interactive Visuals: We maintain a JavaScript API for for interactive Data Visualization using our high performance web services. We need people both to help add new dynamic animated UI components and other features to the JS API. We also need people to build data driven visuals for our demo gallery if you are artistically or data analysis inclined. Enjoy working with Knockout, Angular, D3.js, HTML5? Check our our galleries to see the kind of stuff you will be working on http://maplarge.com/demos

(2) Full Stack Web Services - Full stack developers who are comfortable working on both client and server side to produce high performance applications powered by scalable web services are the backbone of our team.  We run c# in both .net and mono server side and also maintain a flexible client side API with a large library of reusable components. We host and run large deployments that sometimes scale to thousands of computers for scientific/industrial/gov users and in a typical day process data over 15 billion records from 110 million streaming data sources.

(3) Algorithm / Core Database Development -  We built our own in memory database and distributed data analytics pipeline from the ground up with funding from DARPA, and we have a team of really talented researchers working on Pattern analysis, Streaming analytics, Spatial queries and Network graph functions that power our visual engines. We are always looking for practical people who love writing highly optimized code that straddles the line between research and software development. We don't usually publish scientific papers, but we are right out on the edge pulling algorithms out of the latest research papers finding really fast "good enough" approaches that let us tease interesting patterns out of data without getting lost in "science experiment land"

Requirements:

  • US Person based anywhere in the US (100% remote allowed but no off shore)
  • 5 Years work experience as a programmer
  • Highly Comfortable with C# and Visual Studio
  • Experienced with Web Development & JavaScript
