Technical Program Manager for Machine Learning Quality
Fathom
machine learning manager healthcare Aug 03
Please note that this position currently requires residency in the U.S.

We’re on a mission to understand and structure the world’s medical data, starting by making sense of the terabytes of clinician notes contained within the electronic health records of the world’s largest health systems.

Fathom is seeking a Technical Program Manager (TPM) for Machine Learning (ML) Quality who will drive the day-to-day evaluation of system performance; identify systemic issues; and propose and drive the execution cost-efficient solutions, using the full range of software and machine-learning solutions available (machine-learning algorithm improvements, data quality fixes, re-labeling of challenging examples, rules-based approaches to tackle point issues, etc.).

You will work closely with the CTO and Engineering Manager, in addition to the entirety of the engineering team and, on occasion, the customer success team, as you respond to and address customer issues as they arise.

As a Technical Program Manager you will:

  • Be responsible for driving the core quality loop of a machine-learning based product:
  • Analyze outcomes (success or failure?)
  • Identify and aggregate issues
  • Propose fixes based on cost:benefit
  • Write detailed specs up for engineering
  • See those specs through to conclusion
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert in our core domain, Medical Coding.
  • Become an expert in how our end-to-end machine-learning-based system works...and how to make it better.

This is a great role if:

  • You love working with data
  • You’re always thinking about better, faster, cheaper ways to do things.
  • You are a very fast learner and like diving in to learn new things.
  • You enjoy working closely with engineering
  • You are detail- and systems-oriented.  Medical coding isn’t rocket science, but it has many rules, is pretty complex, and has many pernicious failure modes.  You need to be someone who likes tackling complicated systems--both learning the detail, and building up rules and structures to control that complexity.
  • You are excited about learning and working with cutting-edge machine learning technologies.
  • You are interested in developing into a Product Manager, Engineering Manager, and/or TPM with increasing responsibility.

We’re looking for teammates who bring:

  • 2+ years in a technical role, such as as a Software Engineer, Data Scientist, or Product Manager on a technical product.
  • If you’ve got less experience but it is exceptionally strong, please consider applying, as well.
  • Experience working with top-tier technical teams.

Bonus points if you have experience with:

  • Technical degree, such as Computer Science
  • Experience with machine learning (in any capacity--professional, academic, or even on your own time)
  • Experience in the healthcare industry

We’re on a mission to change healthcare — how it’s paid for, delivered, experienced. We want to put people center stage, not process or profit. We are guided by a deep belief that every person on Medicare should be treated like we would treat a member of our own family: with loving care and a profound commitment to their health and well-being.

That’s why we’re gathering a whole bunch of smart, big-hearted people to create a new kind of healthcare company — one that combines compassion, health insurance, clinical care, and technology seamlessly.

We want to throw the long ball with people we love for a cause we believe in. Life is short. Join us.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with key business stakeholders to understand the analytical needs of the business and providing insight in a rapid, iterative, and collaborative process
  • Developing thoughtful reports and dashboards that help Operations teams improve their business decision-making
  • Identifying patterns in the analyses you conduct, and using those patterns to improve our tools and processes so we can deliver results more quickly and accurately
  • Sharing your domain knowledge with technical team-members who do not have an MA background
  • Communicating results to an audience of mixed technical backgrounds

Desired skills and experience:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment
  • 2+ years of technical work at a Medicare Advantage plan or service provider
  • Experience collaborating effectively with stakeholders
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with dashboarding and creating reports
  • Bonus: In-depth experience with Risk Adjustment
If you love running towards complex challenges and transforming them into solutions, if you want to make a potentially huge impact on many lives, and if you are looking for a disruptive startup with an inspiring and talented team, Devoted Health may be the place for you!

Site Reliability Engineer
cloud linux kubernetes go healthcare Jun 28

Giant Swarm is a fast-growing open-source infrastructure management platform used by modern enterprises. Our vision is to empower developers around the world to ship great products.

We're a distributed, diverse, and growing team, spread across Europe. The company is based in Cologne, Germany, where we have a small office in a coworking space. However, less than 5% of us actually work there. All workflows are designed to function remotely - but of course, if you want to visit Cologne, you are more than welcome!

What we offer on top:

  • Choose the hardware you like the most!
  • Family first - we have more kids than employees!
  • Join our team at conferences all over the globe!
  • Internal Hackathons - we love to challenge ourselves!
  • 2 Off-Sites per year (check our photos on Instagram)!

What’s the most outstanding part about working for Giant Swarm?
"It's a long list, but for me, the most important thing is the people. It's great to be surrounded by so many smart people - there's a lot of work to do but it doesn't feel like an uphill struggle because everyone pulls their weight so well"

(Simon Weald, SRE)

While we are remote-first, we appreciate quality time with our co-workers, so we meet in person twice a year to work and have fun together.

Work-life integration

  • Flexible working hours, and working from home or anywhere you prefer
  • Currently, the number of kids from our team members outnumbers the number of employees.
  • We don’t only care about the kids “within” the company, but also about all children - for example, we compensate the carbon of all our flights.
  • As an international company, we want to create similar standards for everyone, regardless of location. So, additional perks (for example, a location-aware, fixed amount paid each month to cover costs like co-working, phone contracts or gym memberships), paid parental leave and healthcare compensation are compulsory.

Your Job

  • You maintain, operate and upgrade our own and our customer’s Kubernetes clusters.
  • You will design, configure, build, and maintain our core infrastructure, from kernel parameters to the cloud provider templates.
  • You understand how servers and systems work and you tweak their behavior to your needs.
  • You will be responsible for our monitoring, logging and alerting.
  • You will help resolve incidents on our own and our customer’s clusters.
  • You participate in the on-call support schedule (~ one 24 hours shift every 2 weeks)
  • You are a go-to person in case our developers need advice regarding infrastructure.
  • You will automate all the things.

Requirements

  • You must have deep, hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes from both the end-user and the operation side.
  • You have wide experience with and are able to debug Networking, Security, Linux (Kernel, Namespaces, cgroups).
  • You have great debugging skills and you are not afraid to deep dive into thousands of lines of logs.
  • You have decent coding skills, preferably in Go. You have experience with maintaining infrastructure with code.
  • You know the good and bad parts of various automatization tools (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible or Saltstack).
  • You are fluent with CNCF products running on top of Kubernetes (prometheus, grafana, ingress controller, …) you know how to use them and how to configure them.
  • You have a decent knowledge of storage including software-defined storage.
  • You like reverse and performance engineering.
  • You automate all the things by writing code. Using bash scripts for it makes you sad :)
  • We are currently mostly distributed around Europe (around UTC), but we have recently won our first US client and are looking for someone in the same time zone. Thus, you are located somewhere at the American (North, South or Central) East Coast.

Why we think this job is worth applying for!

Impact, Impact, Impact! We are a remote-first organization with a growing team from 15+ European countries. Every new team member changes the team. This is great! People who know things we don’t are highly welcome.

“It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission” (Grace Hopper) - sure, it’s not 100% like this, but we have a strong culture of failure which, is part of our agile mindset. We don’t do things like in the guidebook. You can try things out! Our default to 100% transparency will help you here.
We play a key role in our customers' digital transformation. We have partnered up with Amazon and Microsoft to provide our solution on their cloud platforms - more will follow.
We have been in this ecosystem from the get-go and as part of the CNCF family, we feel at home in the community. As a part of Giant Swarm, you will also join this extended family.
We serve some of Europe's leading organizations and are talking to many more.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?"Finding time to concentrate on a specific task (especially if it's in-depth) - SREs context-switch a lot"

  • You will be the liaison between product, engineering, and stakeholders across the company, maintaining clear, regular communication to ensure smooth handoffs and feature releases

Who you are

A bit about us:

We’re on a mission to change healthcare — how it’s paid for, delivered, experienced. We want to put people center stage, not process or profit. We are guided by a deep belief that every person on Medicare should be treated like we would treat a member of our own family: with loving care and a profound commitment to their health and well-being.

That’s why we’re gathering a whole bunch of smart, big-hearted people to create a new kind of healthcare company — one that combines compassion, health insurance, clinical care, and technology seamlessly.

We want to throw the long ball with people we love for a cause we believe in. Life is short. Join us.

Why Devoted:

Make a difference... a BIG difference. You will have the opportunity, in a unique and dynamic culture, to be a part of something incredibly meaningful. We’re a disruptive startup with an inspiring mission. Learn and grow alongside our world-class team of health care, technology, and data leaders, dedicated to building a health plan and clinical services that care for everyone like they were our own mothers or fathers. Our team and board members have decades of experience in health care entrepreneurship, data, technology, services, and policy. With their support, we look forward to building a health plan and clinical services that will give seniors easy access to the high-quality care they deserve.

A bit about this role:

Technology does amazing things in our daily lives, yet often is a source of pain and confusion within health care.  We want to empower Devoted to deliver a world-class member experience with simple, flexible technical systems.  If we need to delve into the murky underbelly of health care IT to do that, we’re up for the challenge.

Our north star is not a specific technology, but rather the goal of continually increasing the leverage of every member of the team. We’re currently building with Go, PostgreSQL, gRPC, GraphQL, React, TypeScript, Terraform, and AWS; and we think it’s a pretty awesome stack.

We want engineer-owners with the judgment to simultaneously solve for short and long-term business value. We’re looking for folks who have worked in complex domains and systems, and come through it with some wisdom but most importantly humility.  We want people who are passionate about building great technology to solve problems for users—our members, our colleagues, and ourselves.

Whether you have a healthcare background or not, we are excited to learn from and share knowledge with you.  Our engineering leadership team includes seasoned alumni of healthcare and technology organizations spanning the public and private sector.  Our co-founders deeply understand and care about good technology: Todd Park co-founded Athenahealth, a multi-billion-dollar healthcare technology company, and served as CTO of the U.S.; Ed Park was Athenahealth's founding engineer and served as its CTO, COO, and President of Services.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Building product features across a range of technologies
  • Working with subject matter experts to understand and design solutions to improve our members lives
  • Working with other members of the technology team to improve our technology platform

Attributes to success:

  • Experience coupled with a willingness to learn new things
  • Comfort with uncertainty and a desire to be close to business problems
  • Desire to contribute individually, with the ability both to self-direct work and to collaborate with others on the technology team
  • Understanding of many technologies down to first principles, and a desire to add more to the list

Desired skills and experience:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment
  • 8+ years working as a software engineer
  • 5+ years working as an individual technical contributor
  • You have experience designing and developing cloud-native, scalable, and highly available distributed systems
  • You are skilled at taking a functional prototype and building it into a system that can survive hundreds or thousands of requests per minute.  You love to dive deep into the architecture of the software.
  • Experience with our specific stack components a bonus, but not required
If you love running towards complex challenges and transforming them into solutions, if you want to make a potentially huge impact on many lives, and if you are looking for a disruptive startup with an inspiring and talented team, Devoted Health may be the place for you!

Devoted is an equal opportunity employer.  We are committed to a safe and supportive work environment in which all employees have the opportunity to participate and contribute to the success of the business. We value diversity and collaboration. Individuals are respected for their skills, experience, and unique perspectives. This commitment is embodied in Devoted’s Code of Conduct, our company values and the way we do business.

As an Equal Opportunity Employer, the Company does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy status, marital status, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, genetic information, gender identity, gender expression, or any other factor prohibited by law. Our management team is dedicated to this policy with respect to recruitment, hiring, placement, promotion, transfer, training, compensation, benefits, employee activities and general treatment during employment.

Our marketplace empowers entire organizations by connecting researchers with verified business professionals so they can conduct the kind of research interviews that yield invaluable results. • You will discuss technical implementation details with engineers and make trade-offs to strike a balance between meeting the customer needs and hitting deadlines and company goals

Solutions Architect
python data science machine learning api healthcare May 08
At Hyperscience, we use modern machine learning to turn documents into machine-readable data. Our customers receive a wide variety of documents, like life insurance applications, paystubs, utility bills, insurance claims, that must be processed quickly and accurately to better serve the people at these organizations, and their customers. Amazingly, this is all done manually today. We’re on a mission to change that! Our product is already delivering value to large, blue-chip organizations in financial services and insurance, and we see a massive opportunity to expand to more industries and automate more business processes. We are looking for people who are excited to help us build upon this foundation and vision.

While at first this may not seem like a priority for a machine learning company, we see a huge opportunity in great user experience. Machine learning itself is not a product. While it’s a fundamental piece of our technology, it still must live in an ecosystem and be used by people. Human-in-the-loop is a powerful feature that allows us to do things like process anything, provide feedback loops for generating accuracy reporting, and on-demand model re-training. Our product works with people, and for people.

We're looking to grow our Engineering Team with the addition of a Solutions Architect.

As a Solutions Architect You Will Be:

  • The technical point of contact for the Customer Experience team when deep technical questions or issues arise from installing or using our product.
  • Creatively troubleshooting and solving problems given details from customers even when the initial answer is unclear.
  • Managing around-the-world engineering resources to diagnose and fix high priority escalations across multiple time zones and locations, facilitating information flow between the Customer Experience team and engineering as necessary.
  • Participating in customer calls which require more technical expertise.
  • Involved in architecture discussions and decisions when implementing new product features.
  • Leveraging your systems knowledge to deliver fast and scalable software, starting from the design of the system through development and extension.
  • Helping improve our code quality by writing unit tests and performing thorough code reviews.
  • Designing easy-to-use programmer interfaces and tools that will be leveraged by other developers, including APIs for our clients' developers.

Desired Experience:

  • Degree in Computer Science or related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in building web-scale and/or enterprise-grade systems in different environments.
  • Strong ability to reason about data structures, complexity, and possible engineering approaches to a problem.
  • Experience with Python / Django is preferred, but experience with any mainstream language and framework is required.
  • Experience with distributed systems is a huge plus.
  • Experience with database systems, including SQL and/or NoSQL solutions is required.
  • Strong background in data science and mathematics is a plus.
  • Experience with customer service is a plus.
  • Experience with version control systems, preferably Git.
  • Experience troubleshooting remote systems in a customer-owned environment with limited access is a huge plus.

What You Will Achieve:

  • Within your first 30 days:
  • You will get acquainted and eventually be fully comfortable navigating the full codebase, the technology stack, the development processes and org structure within the company.
  • You will learn the product and will make your first significant, user-impacting contributions to one of our products.
  • You will get to know our ML domain, codebase, and practical applications.
  • You will begin to troubleshoot customer escalations as they arise.

  • Within your first quarter and beyond:
  • You will be an integral part of the team and a driven, focused self-starter who can navigate a certain amount of ambiguity, and who is not afraid to take a sizable chunk of functionality, analyze it, break it down, implement it and then assume ownership and responsibility over it.
  • You will be taking an active role in discussions about possible solutions, different approaches, API designs and more.
  • You will decide when to bring in additional engineering help as necessary to handle escalations as necessary and help facilitate information flow between CX and engineering.
  • You will contribute to shaping the way customer issues and requests are handled within Hyperscience.

Benefits & Perks

  • Top notch healthcare for you and your family
  • 30 days of paid leave annually to help nurture work-life symbiosis
  • A 100% 401(k) match for up to 6% of your annual salary
  • Stock Options
  • Paid gym membership
  • Pre-tax transportation and commuter benefits
  • 6 month parental leave (or double salary to pay for your partner's unpaid leave)
  • Free travel for any person accompanying a breastfeeding mother and her baby on a business trip
  • A child care and education stipend up to $3,000 per month, per child, under the age of 21 for a maximum of $6,000 per month total
  • Daily catered lunch, snacks, and drinks
  • Budget to attend conferences, train, and further your education
  • Relocation assistance
