Remote Junior Level Jobs

Last Week

Junior Software Engineer
typescript react-js dot net junior cs Mar 01

The best product development job in the world? We think so.

We are looking for people who live and work in Australia to join our remote-first team. You will be working on Octopus Deploy, the most popular deployment automation tool in the world. This means everything you do will positively affect the lives of thousands of software developers and operations teams around the world.

Read our employee handbook our people repository to discover what it's like working at Octopus.

You will join one of our development teams to work on Octopus Server. We work in 8-week cycles, focusing on directed work for 6-weeks. The other 2-weeks are for you to "sharpen your saw", working on your growth so you become more effective at your job. We remove unnecessary obstacles so you can work directly with customers who are developers just like us. Our teams are software tradespeople who care about doing things right the first time. You will probably be surprised at how collaboratively we work both inside and across our teams, even though our teams work remotely. We take pride in our hard-earned, friendly, consensus-building, and ever-improving remote-first culture.

Working at Octopus may be different from any other job you’ve had before. In many companies, software engineers are treated as an expense to reduce or a revenue stream to increase. In contrast, Octopus is a product company built from the ground up by engineers, for engineers. At Octopus your effort will be appreciated because you are adding value to our products, which are our assets. Also, our customers are people just like us. This makes it easy to relate to our customers and understand what they care about most.

Octopus is not done. Many of us came to Octopus thinking “it does everything I want, how can I possibly help?” Continual changes in the software landscape present a constant stream of opportunities for us to explore. We will continue to make Octopus the best tool in its class by increasing the value Octopus offers, pushing into new territory beyond deployment automation, all the while making Octopus easier and more delightful to use for both simple and complex scenarios alike. If you like solving distributed computing problems, building delightful user experiences, or anything in between, you can do that with us.

Octopus is not a startup. We do not need venture capital, we have been a sustainably profitable business from day one. We care about building a sustainable company and we do this by helping customers succeed, leaving increased revenue as a happy byproduct.

A typical day might include

  • Working where you work best, perhaps in a home office designed by you, using a device of your choosing, with or without music, in an atmosphere you create for yourself.
  • Changing source code hosted in GitHub, most of it in the open, collaborating on a pull-request, then shipping a release to customers around the world via an automated build, test, and delivery pipeline, often within the same day.
  • Working with your mentor to fix a bug using an approach like red-green-refactor to prevent customers from experiencing that bug again.
  • Attending an internal workshop held by some of the leading engineers in the industry
  • Learning a functional language so you can apply that thinking to our code base
  • Building tools to help the team work more effectively.
  • Improving our documentation to help customers discover solutions for themselves, and learn how to use Octopus for more complicated workflows.
  • Writing a blog post about something interesting for other developers, or explaining a new feature of Octopus.

You will be a great fit for this role if

  • You have 1 to 3 years of professional software development experience.
  • You enjoy experimenting with software and have a drive to learn.
  • You are keen to learn C#, TypeScript and React and worth with them day to day.
  • You enjoy automating things like builds, tests, deployments, infrastructure, and operational tasks.
  • You enjoy collaborating with other people to solve problems, challenging each other to discover the best solution for a problem, using a balance of passion, pragmatism, and empathy.
  • You are a results-oriented person, someone who is focused on iteratively delivering valuable things to your customers, someone who willingly changes direction based on clear and transparent business information, and someone who helps others do the same.
  • You are able to work independently, motivating yourself to do high-quality work on time, communicating with your teammates when you need help or when you are ready for something new.

You will enjoy this role if

  • You like a balance of freedom and responsibility, being treated as an adult.
  • You like getting a deep understanding of the problem before diving in and fixing it
  • You enthusiastically accept radically candid feedback, feedback that is thoughtful, timely, and directly actionable, and offer the same benefit to others.
  • You want to do your best work with other like-minded people.
  • You enjoy doing things the right way from the very beginning knowing you are working on a valuable asset.
  • You enjoy working with great tools and modern programming frameworks in the development environment of your choice.
  • You enjoy collaborating with customers and co-workers to find the best solution, not just the obvious one.

Jira Cloud Scale - Junior Software Engineer

cloud junior java aws backend testing Feb 19
Atlassian is continuing to hire with all interviewing and on-boarding done virtually due to COVID-19. All new and existing Atlassians will continue to work from home until it’s safe to return to our offices. When our offices re-open, we will provide the choice to work from home or return to work in an office unless a job requirement makes it necessary for a particular role to be performed at an Atlassian office.

Atlassian is searching for a backend Software Engineer to join the Jira Cloud Scale & Performance team in Gdansk.
The Jira Cloud Scale & Performance is responsible for improving scalability of Jira Cloud, the most popular product among 194 000 Atlassian customers all over the world.
Now, the team behind the Jira Cloud platform has a huge role to play in enabling our customers' journey to the Cloud. Together, we are enabling customers to confidently extend their Atlassian Cloud products, without trading off on security or reliability.

Where you’ll make an impact

  • As a member of the Jira Cloud Scale & Performance team, you will build, improve and operate the infrastructure, services and APIs that are part of Jira Cloud platform, a building block used by Jira Software, Jira Service Management and other products including third party developers to extend Atlassian products.
  • We will focus especially on the needs of Enterprise customers, who seek guarantees that Jira Cloud meets their scale requirement.
  • Together we will work on solutions increasing Jira Cloud throughput and performance, a foundation for constantly growing Cloud customer base, yet not impacting user experience. For example how can we scale horizontally introducing eventual consistency whilst having no impact on reliability and user experience?
  • In this role, you will collaborate closely not only with your immediate team, but also with engineers across a wide range of Jira Cloud product family, infrastructure teams, as well as with product managers.

On your first day, we'll expect you to have:

  • Understanding software development in JVM languages like Java or Kotlin and an understanding of how to write performant, decoupled, testable, maintainable code.
  • Understanding of high-availability, fault-tolerant, scalable, distributed systems.
  • Willingness to take ownership of the software you write all the way to production, and experience operating software in production. This includes building monitoring into your code, tweaking dashboards, defining alerts, writing runbooks, etc...
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies and software development practices (unit testing, pair programming, and continuous integration).
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate on ideas and designs with your team and beyond, in a remote working environment.
  • A "non-hero approach": rather than celebrating heroic efforts pulled off to resolve an incident, prefer engaging in engineering practices that avoid the incidents in the first place!

The following are not required, but definite bonuses:

  • Experience with Amazon AWS cloud offering
  • Experience with RDMS, Elasticsearch
  • Good understanding of typical web application patterns and challenges of both microservices and serverless architectures.
  • Experience with incident management processes and participating in 24/7 on-call rosters.

Junior Desktop Support Engineer

junior cloud Nov 18 2020
Atlassian is continuing to hire with all interviewing and on-boarding done virtually due to COVID-19. All new and existing Atlassians will continue to work from home until it’s safe to return to our offices. When our offices re-open, every Atlassian will have the choice to work from an office or from home.

If you love learning new systems and technologies, striving for continuous improvement and live and breathe customer service, then Atlassian has a superb opportunity for you. As a Junior Desktop Support Engineer in our Workplace Technology team, you will work as part of a global team with the goal of delivering world-class technology and exceptional customer service to Atlassians everywhere. You will implement, advocate for and support Atlassian's workplace technology footprint from application administration to collaboration solutions. There’s a healthy dose of desktop support, so Apple troubleshooting experience would be a benefit.

More about you

We love people with a healthy balance of technical ability and a passion for customer service. You research and play with new technologies in your spare time, and you know how to translate complex technical ideas for non-technical people. You don't take things at face value because that's the way they are done', but rather seek to understand the reasons and then take steps to improve. You are tenacious in pursuit of understanding, getting to the bottom of an issue to prevent it from recurring, and help the team by documenting your journey and successes.

On your first day, we'll expect you to have:

  • Solid skills supporting macOS desktop environments
  • Some familiarity with various MDM solutions
  • Some familiarity with Zoom troubleshooting
  • Epic customer service skills
  • An appetite to learn

It is great, but not required, if you have experience with:

  • Supporting Windows 10
  • Familiarity with the MDM solution Workspace ONE for Windows and device management
  • Providing AV support for events (remote and in-office)
More about this position

Our EMEA region is full of awesome hard-working people making cool things for our customers. We have a wonderful team supporting the region alongside our AtlasDesk, Engineering and Leadership teams who we work with closely. As the champions for the end user the team touch almost everything Workplace Technology does plus a lot, lot more. EMEA also has many teams integral to Atlassian, including a wide range of our products teams, server, cloud and mobile engineering, customer support and our exec team, so each day will bring a new challenge.  This position will require some work to be done in our Amsterdam office.

More about our team

Workplace Technology are an intelligent, dynamic, collaborative and social team.  We aren't afraid to try new things, and are the first to play around with new toys - this is a great environment to learn what does and does not work. We readily share knowledge and experience and there are many opportunities to learn and grow here. Whilst we do work from a queue, there is flexibility in work practice, and frequent major projects to keep us on our toes and build deeper technical skills. With Atlassian's rate of growth we are an indispensable part of new system rollouts, office moves and expansions. We provide support for the entire organization, from our (very casual) exec level on down. We are experienced facilitators, and run a world-class staff orientation to bring new starters up to speed with technology on their first day, and are highly available for support in their first few weeks. Most of all, we love to see our fellow staff at Atlassian getting the most out of technology; whether that means solving and fixing a problem, or rolling out a new tool to make work easier.

More about our benefits

Whether you work in an office or a distributed team, Atlassian is highly collaborative and yes, fun! To support you at work (and play) we offer some fantastic perks: ample time off to relax and recharge, flexible working options, five paid volunteer days a year for your favourite cause, an annual allowance to support your learning & growth, unique ShipIt days, a company paid trip after five years and lots more.
