Remote Senior Front-end React Software Engineer
Vavato
react-js css javascript senior frontend ruby Jan 23

Remote Senior React Front-end Software Engineer

ONLY CANDIDATES FROM EUROPEAN TIMEZONES WILL BE CONSIDERED (CET +-1 hour).

Exciting times! At Vavato we are building a development team from scratch to further the development of our auction platform, initially built by a 3rd party agency.

You will join our brand new Product Development department and team, have a high degree of responsibility, freedom to execute your job, and have a high impact on a rocket ship growth organization.

Culture

At Vavato you will find a relaxed, casual atmosphere (and occasionally see post-it blocks flying down the hallway in an attempt to punish a bad joke). We are young in spirit and lighthearted but work hard to reach our goals while maintaining a healthy work/life balance.

We expect everyone to take initiative and point out things we could be doing better or could do to improve the #HAPPYVAVATO experience for our buyers and sellers. Our management team is always happy to listen to your concerns and implement the best ideas. Together we are smarter and stronger.

You

We are looking for highly motivated individuals willing to be part of a growing start-up / scale-up adventure. As our Senior React Front-end Engineer, we expect you to have not only good knowledge of the React ecosystem and JavaScript in general, but also to bring "an eye for design" to our group of mostly full-stack developers.

  • You are on top of all the new React features and libraries rising in the ecosystem, and help our CTO in making technology choices concerning the front end.
  • You master and enjoy learning about all the latest CSS features and animation techniques
  • You care about semantic HTML and using the right element for the right section
  • You don't mind doing bits and pieces of Angular work in our legacy application and porting code from Angular to React as we go
  • You are not afraid to roll up the sleeves and dive into a little bit of our Ruby back-end code if something is not quite the way you need it for the UI, or if we go through a period where no UI work is required
  • You don't mind creating components for a new design system from scratch, together with our design team
  • You laugh when looking at the poorly aligned screens with questionable typography your full-stack colleagues made and find delight in getting them into their final shape and high-fiving your colleague for great teamwork.
  • You are our marketing department's best buddy in Product Development and collaborate with them in getting things into the perfect shape for our users

We expect you to take full ownership of your work, work hard, especially when needed - production issues can occur and have to be tackled, issues arise daily that require immediate attention to avoid hurting the company's bottom line. We try to structure the work as best as we can, but sometimes you will have to cope with chaos. Nothing at Vavato is somebody else's problem.

That doesn't mean we expect you to work long hours every day, on the contrary. We believe a healthy work/life balance is the key to keeping everyone at their most productive and happy. On rare occasions, it is necessary though, and we expect you to be flexible in the same way the company is flexible towards you with flexible working hours and unlimited holidays when it's called for.

You help carry the load, help your teammates, and push the company forward.  There is plenty of room for learning and growth in our team. The intention is to make this company 10x bigger than it is today, with a focus on becoming a platform rather than just an auction house. Plenty of opportunities will be available down the road for people who are willing and capable.

We also expect you to have fun, love your job, love our customers, and enjoy the company of your colleagues ;)

Practices / Values

  • We deploy multiple times a day to production with zero downtime using Continuous Delivery
  • We follow the open-source model with our CTO being the benevolent dictator on the product and everyone contributing through pull requests
  • We believe in the values of Software Craftsmanship and in doing things "the right way", even under pressure.
  • We work directly with the stakeholders within the company without any proxy between the people who need a feature and the people working on it
  • We do unit testing, integration testing, black-box testing, and testing spanning the whole stack. This way you know that code that hits master is production-ready.
  • We use Kanban and release features as they become ready, without ever doing big bang releases and without creating "a release".
  • All of your code will be reviewed by a peer before being put into production to accelerate your learning and for your own ease of mind
  • Everything in our infrastructure is scripted either through Flux or Terraform to ensure reproducible builds and minimum downtime disaster recovery
  • We have hourly full backups of the database in case anything goes wrong
  • We have tested our disaster recovery plan extensively
  • We use trunk-based development, our branches are very short-lived, and we employ feature toggles to ship code to production as early as possible without making it visible to users. There is no staging or test environments, there is only production.

Stack

We don't expect you to know everything in the list, but the more the merrier. Solid experience with React is required though, and affinity with Ruby and Angular are a plus.

Front-end:

  • React (with Hooks, no Redux, no TypeScript)
  • Jest
  • Cypress
  • Angular 6 (legacy app)

Back-end:

  • REST / JSON API (No GraphQL yet)
  • Ruby 2.6.6
  • Rails 6
  • Rspec
  • Cucumber
  • Sidekiq
  • Redis
  • MySQL
  • PubNub

 Other:

  • Google Cloud
  • Kubernetes and GKE
  • Github Actions CI
  • Docker
  • Experience with Continuous Delivery

Experience having worked on an auction platform before is a huge plus.

Perks

We believe giving you the best conditions to getting work done your way is in your and our best interests. We offer great work/life balance, good benefits, quality hardware and equipment.

  • Fully remote work
  • €4000 budget for MacBook Pro or Linux laptop of your choice + monitor + headset
  • Learning budget of €3000 per year for conferences and training
  • 1 free day a month to work on your pet project related to the company
  • Unlimited holidays
  • Coworking subscription or coffee shop allowance of €200/month
  • Company will refund your internet connection up to €100/month

Information Security Engineer
ruby embedded saas linux cloud testing Jan 20
Spreedly is a rapidly growing, growth private-equity funded digital payments company with headquarters located in downtown Durham, North Carolina. We've developed a high volume, global solution to support our vision that the world is better with a diversified, inclusive, payment ecosystem.

Our employees help build a culture that values independence, transparency, and collaboration in a digital-first communication environment. We hope you do your best work at Spreedly and find a mature workplace striving to support the ebb and flow of work-life harmony.

It’s not enough to say“Spreedly takes Information Security Seriously” — a robust Information Security posture is at the fundamental core of what makes Spreedly successful. It’s what enables customers to trust us to securely vault 100+ million credit cards and process billions in annual payments annually.

Because Information Security is already woven into the fabric of Spreedly operations, much of the day-to-day information security tasks are federated out to those teams for whom security is already embedded into their core offering(think: security groups with Infrastructure, data loss protections with IT, secure software development practices with application engineering).  This allows the(smaller) information security team to assume more focused information security responsibilities.  To wit, Spreedly is looking for an accomplished information security engineer. For a small company, information security’s influence is far reaching and your capabilities match up to these tasks:

Vulnerability Management - Setup and administration of internal vulnerability scanning as part of a vulnerability management program.  Management of monthly PCI external vulnerability scans through remediation.

Security Testing - Coordination of semiannual information security testing with an external vendor; perform internal ad-hoc penetration testing when requested; setup and manage a(likely open source) phishing campaign; participate in table top exercises; eventually develop and execute red-team assessments.

Education & Awareness - Facilitate interactive OWASP security training for application developers, create and deliver general purpose security education and awareness materials periodically.

Secure Software Development - Perform code reviews of particularly sensitive application components(i.e.: cryptography, credential management, etc..); address and remediate“dependabot” and other SAST-based potential security defects.

Governance & Oversight - Participate in periodic reviews of security operation duties that are federated out to other groups within Spreedly; participate in the information security council(part of a security governance program). Interfacing with Auditors(PCI, SOC-2, etc..).

Incident Response / Threat Intelligence - Continue to hone rulesets and dive deep into the data to provide insights into our adversaries and suggest plans to address a threat before it occurs. Participate in information security incidents.(Spreedly already leverages a managed security provider to deliver 24x7 SOC coverage).

Pragmatic Security Advice - Provide consultation and lend expertise in a wide range of topics including strong defense-in-depth models, automating security within the CI/CD pipeline, cloud security best practices, IT risk assessments, customer security questions,  etc..

We may hire the right candidate into a Senior Information Security Engineer role, depending on candidate experience & strengths. Yes, we acknowledge that the above list is a tall ask. If you’ve fancied yourself a generalist security engineer who can“do a little bit of everything”, you are most heartedly encouraged to apply.

We think the right candidate will have most of the following:

  • Experience with cloud security(AWS preferred)
  • Understanding of security capabilities within a PCI-compliant SaaS organization(i.e.: WAF, Encryption, Identity and Access Management, etc..)
  • Proficiency in a linux environment and the common security toolsets(nmap, wireshark, burp proxy, kali, etc..)
  • Ability to clearly articulate OWASP Top-10 vulnerabilities and their common mitigations
  • Experience with SIEM and data logging toolsets(Splunk, Datadog, Sumo Logic)
  • Some programming proficiency(python, ruby, Elixr, etc..)
  • A desire to mentor other engineers and foster a collaborative environment to improve our security posture
  • A willingness to be a generalist and dig into new things you've never done before.
  • Excellent written communications, and a track record of documenting your work.
  • A pragmatic, take-action approach but you’re open to failing fast and pivoting.
  • An ability to sort out immediate priorities from the ever shifting needs of a rapidly growing organization.

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary
  • Outstanding medical and dental benefits(we pay 100% of monthly premiums for employees + families)
  • Life and long-term disability insurance
  • Medical and dependent care FSA
  • Optional vision insurance
  • Open PTO policy
  • 12 weeks paid Family Leave
  • Matching 401k plan (5% up to $5,000 yearly)
  • Monthly digital lifestyle stipend ($150)
  • Professional development opportunities including $3,000 annual stipend and access to LinkedIn Learning

  • When travel and in-office work commences
  • Remote friendly work environment. Even our local employees are remote 3 days per week!
  • Tues./Thurs. are in-office days for local employees - the rest of the week employees are free to work wherever they choose
  • Paid lunches on in-office days for local employees
  • Quarterly visits to HQ for remote employees
Spreedly is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion. We actively work to drive out even unintentional discrimination in our hiring processes via practices like blindly graded work samples, structured interviews, and diversity awareness training.

Due to the sensitive nature of what Spreedly does- handling payment data- candidates must complete a successful background check. If you have concerns along those lines, please discuss with us sooner rather than later- we do not want you to waste time in the hiring process and get disqualified at the end if we can help it.

Some of our positions are open to remote applicants. If this is the case it will be sited in the job posting just below the position name. Unless otherwise stated, remote positions are open to candidates in the contiguous US only. We are not set up to support remote employees from CA, NY, WA or outside the contiguous US. All applicants must have a US work visa.

We appreciate your interest in our company. Because of the high volume of resume flow, we will only respond to those candidates that we think will be a potential fit.

Senior Site Reliability Engineer
senior java data science machine learning saas linux Jan 19
Labelbox is building software infrastructure for industrial data science teams to do data labeling for the training of neural networks. When we build software, we take for granted the existence of collaborative tools to write and debug code. The machine learning workflow has no standard tooling for labeling data, storing it, debugging models and then continually improving model accuracy. Enter Labelbox. Labelbox's vision is to become the default software for data scientists to manage data and train neural networks in the same way that GitHub or text editors are defaults for software engineers.

We are backed by some of the finest people in the Silicon Valley who work at Andreessen Horowitz, Gradient Ventures (Google's AI fund), Kleiner Perkins and First Round Capital.

What you'll be doing

  • Executing and actioning on an infrastructure roadmap, collaborating with team members across engineering, product, and design
  • Maintaining and improving our monitoring and alerting for both our SaaS and on-premises offerings
  • Managing log and metrics collection using tools such as ElasticStack, Datadog, and others
  • Enabling development teams to monitor, analyze, and manage their services
  • Building out tools or frameworks to improve the overall development experience
  • Identifying and measuring key performance metrics for our infrastructure and defining service-level objectives (SLOs)
  • Participating in our on-call rotation

We're looking for someone with

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in an SRE or DevOps role
  • Experience with modern Linux systems and running services in production
  • Experience managing infrastructure in a major public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and technologies such as Codefresh, Jenkins, TeamCity, etc
  • Experience with and an understanding of complex distributed systems

Bonus

  • Experience with automation tools and technologies such as shell scripting, Terraform, Helm, etc
  • Experience deploying, maintaining, and automating services in on-premises environments
  • Coding skills in languages such as Java or Golang
  • Experience with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other RDBMS
  • Experience with other open source technologies such as Redis, Elasticsearch, and RabbitMQ
  • Experience with SOC 2, FedRAMP, HIPAA, and other compliance-related programs
  • Experience managing multiple Kubernetes clusters / clusters spanning multiple cloud providers
  • Advanced knowledge of infrastructure management in GCP
We believe that AI has the power to transform every aspect of our lives -- from healthcare to agriculture. The exponential impact of artificial intelligence will mean mammograms can happen quickly and cheaply irrespective of the limited number of radiologists there are in the world and growers will know the instant that disease hits their farm without even being there.

At Labelbox, we’re building a platform to accelerate the development of this future. Rather than requiring companies to create their own expensive and incomplete homegrown tools, we’ve created a training data platform that acts as a central hub for humans to interface with AI. When humans have better ways to input and manage data, machines have better ways to learn.

Atlassian is continuing to hire with all interviewing and on-boarding done virtually due to COVID-19. All new and existing Atlassians will continue to work from home until it’s safe to return to our offices. When our offices re-open, every Atlassian will have the choice to work from an office or from home.

Love staying ahead of the growth curve and experimenting with new software and environments? Get on board as a Site Reliability Engineer .

As a Site Reliability Engineer in the Confluence Cloud team, you’ll build solutions to enhance the availability, performance and stability of Atlassian's Confluence Cloud offering as well as automating away repetitive work. You'll also respond to alerts, pings, pages, queries and problems that you can investigate and really sink your teeth into. You'll be working on non-production and production environments, monitoring, data collection and configuration management, as well as disaster recovery planning, capacity engineering, reliability improvement initiatives and platform automation. The best person for this role is someone that has a collaborative spirit - in our world, it’s not about being a hero and having all the answers, it’s about sometimes saying "I don't know" and working on finding solutions rather than starting with an assumption. The team needs someone who can collaborate with other teams, ask questions, learn from others and turn chaos into order.

This role would be a great fit for someone with creative and innovative problem solving skills. You will not only identify problems, but also develop and implement solutions that operate at scale - seeing your own technology efforts directly improve the reliability of our products. Our teams are empowered and expected to improve our products to truly deliver a reliable experience to customers. You will own development efforts in each and every sprint from planning to delivery to realize this goal and collaborate with different teams to review code.

One thing we promise: you’ll never be bored.

On your first day, we'll expect you to have:

  • Software development experience with Java.
  • Experience in automation - we don't want you doing repetitive work! Python is ideal.
  • Understanding of Linux systems.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS - minimum of 1 year.
  • Troubleshooting skills across different levels of the stack
  • Experience in monitoring distributed systems.

It's great, but not required, if you have:

  • Experience with container management and micro-services architectures such as Docker.
  • Understanding of incident management process.

We are in the process of building our teams, tools and systems as part of Atlassian's mission to build the best SaaS services in the world. We enable Atlassian to go fast by providing real time feedback on production systems. We work side by side with the product family and platform developers to maintain and improve services and performance.

We live the company values with a strong customer focus and possess a healthy sense of urgency. We are a heavily data driven team, utilizing a variety of data collection, enrichment, analytics and visualizations to learn about our complex systems.

We also live the 'Play, as a team' value by having a strong focus on sharing learning experiences from the front line with the development teams. So, the options for people in the team are vast. If you like mastering a domain and going deep, we need you. If you can juggle three tasks and coordinate multiple people in the heat of an incident, we need you. If you love the benefits of process and methodical improvement, you will love it here. If you want to keep your head down, headphones on and bash out code to support the team, we have a spot for you too.

Atlassian. Powered by You.

CI/CD Engineer
python linux docker Jan 07

Are you the kind of person who tracks their shopping list with git?

Or maybe your cat feeder is activated automatically with Github Actions?

Are your opinions on Ansible vs Docker Compose for container orchestration coming from real-life experience?

Parity Technologies is looking for a CI/CD Engineer to help us with automating an ever-growing set of open source repos in https://github.com/paritytech.

We’re looking for someone who prefers autonomy (https://medium.com/paritytech/engineering-at-parity-what-its-like-c0e5c8a17870) over being told what to do, a person who would enjoy having to communicate the solutions of their own picking to others in a loosely-structured work environment, and someone who sees their life goal in automating the unautomateable and then optimizing its’ build pipeline for sub-second latencies.

You would need to be proficient with:

  • Github Actions, Gitlab CI or similar workflow automation tools (we might challenge you with building us a time-off notification bot using nothing but CI tools on occasion)
  • Their ancestors: makefiles and bash scripting (are you able to tell [ and [[ apart in a script?)
  • Anatomy of Linux systems (what are the most used option flags for journalctl?)
  • And then treating those systems like cattle, not pets — with Ansible, Terraform or similar orchestration tools
  • Fancy new container tech: Docker, Podman etc (do you know what buildkit adds to the table? What would you do to extract a binary from a prebuilt third-party image?)
  • and of course, the omnipresent elephant in the room, git in its numerous applications (did you know that we use Github as an improvised CMS for our websites?)

It would also help if you:

  • Have an idea of how Rust code is being built and what Cargo do
  • Speak some other programming languages: JS, Python, Go, maybe even Perl (but you would have to make a really convincing case before introducing this one into our pipelines)
  • Ever solved non-trivial issues with CI caching in large-scale build systems
  • Will be able to look into eyes of Kubernetes and whisper “I’m not afraid of you”
  • Display obsessive traits when it comes to retaining and organizing operation metrics of the tools you use
  • Are able to reason about security properties of codebases and infrastructure setups, or even (in an ideal case) know how to fuzz.

Benefits:

  • Working at Parity means focusing on the stuff that counts: building of the most cutting-edge technology for the future web. Our teams enjoy a high degree of trust, freedom and autonomy to achieve that goal.
  • Because we value initiative and learning, we've defined a generous personal budget to attend conferences or skills courses of your own choosing. We think you know what's best for you!
  • Parity is a diverse company with people from various countries and we will support you with German language courses and relocation where needed.
  • Many of us who collaborate do not work in the same place. We have a remote-friendly company setup.
  • Bringing the team together is something we value a lot, so we used to regularly go on team retreats and are planning to do so again, once the international health regulations allow it.

To see how we use your data please see our Applicant Notice (https://www.parity.io/applicant-notice/).

Work closely with numerous teams to help them understand what data should be collected and how it should be interpreted. Ensure we can predict issues / outages before they occur and detect them faster when they do.
By providing ongoing education for engineers, and by building visibility tools and systems, we enable teams to evolve their monitoring as their services change. Our work helps to ensure a reliable and consistent user experience by allowing teams to understand how their products and services are performing on a global scale around the clock. Our complete offering of services is listed in Atlassian Observability Stack.

On your first day, we'll expect you to have:

  • Experience in managing cloud infrastructure platforms, particularly AWS (ex. RDS, EC2, S3).
  • Experience in automation/config-as-code such as Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation.
  • Development experience or interest in languages such as Python, Golang or Java
  • Advanced experience and knowledge of Linux Operating Systems

We want you to have:

  • A knowledge of the monitoring, tracing & logging industry & tools
  • Ability to balance reactive and proactive work
  • Interest in supporting others get more done
More about our team

All members of the Observability team are expected to be across development and infrastructure and able to deliver in both. With our squad approach to delivery. One month you could be head down in the technical details of one of our systems, and the next month helping our internal users not shoot themselves in the foot by using our tools incorrectly. We expect you to be able to take on both throughout the year. Some of the challenges you’ll be faced with is running the Southern Hemisphere’s largest Splunk installation, a metrics system that handles 85M metrics per seconds, liaising with multiple vendors to ensure we stay on top of what they are offering, or working on a data pipeline that handles hundreds of TB of data in a single day.
Commonly known as the most interesting and fun team within Atlassian and with the best t-shirts, Observability plays as hard as we work. We live in the tightly run development world as well as the chaos that is managing systems. We move from bug to production as quickly as you can code it (and provide the graph to prove it).

big data linux docker cloud devops Dec 14 2020
Peerspace is creating a world where it’s easy to bring people together, starting with making it easy to find the perfect place to meet, create, and celebrate with others. Our Airbnb-like marketplace uncovers the world’s most unique spaces - like lofts, rooftops, and art galleries - and makes them ready to use for meetings, events, even filmshoots.

Over 1 million people have come together in a Peerspace, and we’re looking for people who want to help us reach the next 10 million.

Peerspace is looking for a Contract Infrastructure Engineer.  As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will be part of a technical team behind building and maintaining Peerspace's services.

Availability, performance, security, reliability, and automation will be your watchwords.

You will:

* Work with our Director of Engineering and help our development teams design and implement production and development environments, address system needs in new and creative ways, and ensure that Peerspace's infrastructure is capable of supporting all Peerspace initiatives.

* Work in a self-guiding, cross-functional team with other humble but highly skilled individuals working in a wide range of technical domains.

* Work alongside internal teams to create and deliver technical strategy.

* Help design and implement solutions for key pieces of infrastructure for deployment, monitoring, alerting, data storage, networking and security.

* Evaluate new tools and technologies based on feature requirements, cost effectiveness, and reliability.

* Occasionally help support Peerspace employees utilize and access services that the company relies on.

Who you should be:

* A veteran: for 5+ years, you've built servers of all types, in the cloud and in containers, and bare even metal back in the day. You have kept an online production environment humming.
You have experience running critical production systems and you're a pro with Linux operating systems.

* Experience with all things GCP (Google Cloud Platform) is a must. Specifically GKE,Cloud SQL, Cloud Composer, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, VPC Networks/Firewalls

*Experience and knowledge of infrastructure and security vendor landscape

* An automator: you realize that automation is the key to scaling. You've similarly grokked, deployed, and supported applications across various tech stacks and multiple regions; you're familiar with the core concepts of object-oriented, functional, and other programming paradigms and have used one or more modern source control management tools.

* Distributed by default: you've worked with distributed big data, caching, networking, and application systems in the past, so you're familiar with the core concepts of distributed systems. You understand the challenges of global cloud networking. You're proficient with basic distributed systems and networking troubleshooting tools.

* Tuning master: you're penny wise. You rightsize cloud and server resources to meet the demand versus over-engineering.

* Adaptable: you're able to rapidly change direction when priorities shift, stay focused on the most relevant issues and can evolve and shift to meet them as needed.

* DevOps: you believe devops is a state of mind and you operate with total ownership. You recognize the value of iterative development and the buck stops at you for quality and support of what you deploy into production.

* Security: Paranoia is an old friend, you operate by the principle of least privilege, keep everything up to date and believe that everything should be encrypted.

You should have:

* A solid 5+ years of being a Linux systems/network administrator.
* Excellent communication skills, written and spoken.
* Experience working with DevOps and Agile/Scrum teams.
* Experience with containers - docker and kubernetes.
* Experience with vulnerability, risk management, and IT compliance
* Experience working with production environments in GCP and cloud environments
