Description

About Green Man Gaming

Green Man Gaming is a multi-award-winning global retailer, publisher, and technology business in the video games industry. Working with the world’s leading gaming brands, Green Man Gaming sells games to millions of customers across 195 countries via its market-leading eCommerce platform. Green Man Gaming’s Publishing division offers more choice to independent studios as they navigate their route to market. The Digital Partners Program enables developers to opt for a mixture of publishing services, providing more flexibility to access the expertise and channels they require. Green Man Gaming continues to expand, increasing their service offering and reinforcing its footprint in global markets including LATAM, SE Asia & China.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

Central to everything Green Man Gaming does, is engineering. The company's roots came from an engineering solution to allow people to sell used digital games back to the retailer. Things have come a long way and our vision has changed slightly, but engineering is still a major factor on what drives us.

Oh big wow, you’re a shop, where is the challenge in that? Even seemingly simple operations may become a challenge at scale, and we deal with steep traffic spikes all the time. Have you ever thought about how you distribute hundreds of thousands of keys to pre-purchased customers? It needs to be fast as every gamer wants their key yesterday, each key is obviously single use so you need to ensure the same key doesn't go to two customers. Our engineers have, and we have patents around this.

We are an e-commerce site but with our growth come exciting challenges. Our code is service driven; we have services for identity, key distribution, etc., and on top of that sits our front end website. Come join us!

Requirements

KEY DELIVERABLES:

  • Working in an agile fashion to maintain and deliver new features in the backend stack that powers the customer-facing website.
  • Writing reliable, performant, scalable and testable code.
  • Participate in retrospectives where the team will look back on the sprint and look at ways things went well and not so well to improve our practices.
  • Investigate and raise cards to support new features.

WE NEED:

Must have:

  • Object-oriented and/or functional programming skills in Python and/or Go.
  • Version control and issue tracking experience (eg. Git, Github or Gerrit)
  • Good understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • Some understanding of application design-patterns, web services, etc.
  • Flexibility, lateral thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Database knowledge: relational databases (eg. Postgres, MySQL, etc.) and/or NoSQL (eg. MongoDB, DynamoDB, etc.)
  • Curiosity to learn new programming languages.

Nice to have and/or willing to gain:

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (AWS Codepipeline)
  • RESTful API design and implementation and messaging system experience
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and network protocols
  • Bash scripting skills.
  • Experience with JavaScript.
  • Experience with multithreading and asynchronous processing
  • Understanding of data-intensive computing and distributed system design
  • Experience with provisioning infrastructure in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform
  • Any data analytics experience including but not limited to Hadoop, R, MapReduce, BigQuery is highly regarded
  • Understanding of DevOps technology landscape such as Docker, AWS CloudFormation, Micro-services.
  • Experience with machine learning and data mining.

When our offices re-open, we will provide the choice to work from home or return to work in an office unless a job requirement makes it necessary for a particular role to be performed at an Atlassian office.

Atlassian is looking for a passionate data analyst who will power up our teams to derive even more meaningful insights from our data. Is that you?

Our team is looking for someone that is passionate about data, a self-starter, highly organised, analytical and have a good eye for detail. You love working a job that can change at a moment's notice. You are not phased by complexity and volume of data nor the dynamic sources and platforms where these datasets may reside, and understand the value this data provides when we make critical business decisions. You thrive in an environment where you are charting your own course and working on problems for which there is no clear solution; where creativity is as crucial as your ability to write code. You are someone who thrives in a robust team and enjoys working in a dynamic environment with plenty of opportunities to learn and develop. With strong partner engagement skills, you are able to balance contending priorities and deliver on deadlines.

On your first day, we'll expect you to have:

  • Strong SQL skills and have proven experience using statistical tools to interpret data (e.g. R or Python)
  • Solid understanding of statistics and understand data significance
  • Familiarisation within data visualisation, data wrangling and data discovery tools
  • An excellent communicator and passionate to collaborate with global, multi-functional teams
  • A willingness to accept failure, learn and try again

It's preferred, but not required, that you have

  • A degree in Business, Statistics, Finance or a related analytical field
  • Experienced in Tableau or other visualisation tools
  • Technology or Software / SaaS industry experience

Tesorio
ux data science machine learning finance May 03
Hello, emerging designer – we’ve been waiting for you.

We know you crave an opportunity to put the design process through its paces, on a real project with measurable outcomes.

We know you yearn to stretch your wings while still having the backstop of senior peers who can help you see your way through.

And we know you want to contribute to something meaningful that will move a real business forward.

Tesorio’s mission, simply put, is to help growing businesses thrive by managing their cash flow. Cash in, cash out is the lifeblood of any company, and our ML-driven tools help customers collaborate, automate, and anticipate more effectively in their businesses.

About the opportunity:

  • Summer 2021 (actual dates to be determined; see below)
  • 8 - 10 weeks, subject to candidate’s availability/school schedule
  • Position is paid (hourly employee, 40 hours/week max)
  • Must reside and be eligible to work in the United States
  • Project is feature-based and will cover the entire design process from research to post-launch performance metrics

  • Please note that Tesorio is a fully distributed company -- we do not have a physical company headquarters. All work and team touchpoints will be conducted remotely.

Here’s what we need for you to succeed:

  • The willingness to take ownership and run a project independently and responsibly
  • The ability to stay organized and manage a schedule
  • The confidence to ask for clarification and help when it’s needed (work smarter, not harder)
  • The ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
  • The maturity to receive constructive criticism and accept suggestions gracefully
  • An eagerness to take risks and try new things -- and look bad while doing them (because, honestly for all of us, that’s how it goes!)

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Communicating project status and planning/troubleshooting with senior designers and researchers
  • Conducting independent work on a project that spans the full breadth of the design process, from research to post-launch measurement
  • Collaborating with User Research, Customer Success, and Data Science on various parts of the project
  • Creating and managing a project schedule
  • Coordinating and leading project meetings
  • Participating in design reviews for other projects
  • Meeting with other team members and being a part of Tesorio

Your profile probably looks like:

  • At least two years of college-level coursework related to  interactive/software interface design
  • Also open to working professionals with UX bootcamp training (ie, General Assembly)

To apply:

  • Send us a cover letter telling us about yourself, including specific personal qualities you believe will help you in this role and why an internship opportunity is important to you
  • Tell us the name of your university, your area of study, and when you started coursework; for working professionals with UX bootcamp qualifications, include your LinkedIn details instead
  • Tell us which design tools you have experience using (ie, Sketch, Figma, etc.)

Showcase a project from your coursework:

  • Use Powerpoint, Google Slides, or a PDF
  • Tell us the project story -- the project focus, your specific responsibilities and contributions, your design process, the rationale for your project choices, and visuals of the final output
  • No more than 5 pages/screens total
  • If you already have a portfolio (congratulations!), ignore the above and just include your portfolio link
  • If you don’t have a project example, make one up! Pick a digital product and tell us how you would make it better, following the showcase format described above

  • Finally, a little about us:

Tesorio helps growing companies achieve strong cash flow performance so they can shift from short-term acrobatics to long-term growth and innovation. We build intuitive, actionable tools that leverage machine learning (ML) to help mid-market businesses manage, predict, and collect cash – an essential activity at any time but a critical business function in challenging economic environments. Our platform analyzes billions of dollars of B2B transactions each year and our users spend 70% of their workday in Tesorio. As a result, not only do we save finance teams thousands of hours but we enable their companies to invest more confidently and anticipate their capital needs further in advance.

We’re growing quickly and work with the world’s best companies and the largest bank in the US. We recently raised a $10MM Series A led by Madrona Venture Group and are backed by top investors including First Round Capital, Y Combinator, and Floodgate. We’re also backed by tenured finance executives, including the former CFOs of Oracle and NetSuite

Portchain is a cloud-based AI software, empowering container carrier and terminal teams to collaborate, analyse and design operations plans to get container vessels through terminals faster and more efficiently. Lower cost. Faster planning. Better outcomes

Container Shipping: An industry with huge potential to make a difference

90% of all goods globally are transported through a container. The largest container vessels are 400 meters long and can transport more than 23,000 containers at a time. The container shipping industry is the backbone and enabler of global trade, but it suffers from operational inefficiencies. 50%+ of all container vessels are delayed coming into port, 4.6% of sailing time is waiting time outside of the port, and key planning processes are done manually on a global scale. This results in high operational costs, lost revenue, and unnecessarily high greenhouse gas emissions (if container shipping was a country it would be the 6th largest in terms of CO2 emissions). At Portchain, we work closely with our customers to reduce operational complexity and optimize planning through software and innovative analytics.

The role

We are looking for skilled and independent Senior Software Engineers to join our software engineering team that is focused on building a modern and user friendly platform, where users in the shipping industry can make quick decisions and stay informed through organised data.

To achieve this we use data, mathematical modeling, machine learning, and optimisation to help our users get full transparency on their operations and allow them to make better decisions.

You will be an important part in a self-managing team that both builds the features, creates the needed architecture and works hard on creating a good work culture that allows you to work in the way that is best for you.

Important: We will only be reviewing and accepting applicants in and near Europe.

The team

We are a 25 person strong team made up of 9 nationalities, with half the company and most of engineering working remotely. On the engineering team we have an average of 9 years experience, so you will get experienced to work, learn and spar with. You can read more about the team and our remote culture on our website: https://www.portchain.com/careers.

We believe that a good software engineer is one who has the freedom to explore good solutions and has a team that lets the best argument win. We aim for having autonomous teams that co-own the platform and its technical evolution.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of end-to-end features from specifications and designs
  • Problem solve architectural decisions with the team
  • Maintain quality and ensure responsiveness of applications
  • Maintain clean code and help build code conventions
  • Understand and follow security and data protection best practices, like f.x. OWASP top 10

Role Requirements

  • 5 years minimum of professional experience in Software Engineering
  • Experience with any or all of the following technologies: Node.js, React, TypeScript
  • Full stack proficient - Nobody is perfect in all, but you’ve dabbled in the different domains.
  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills paired with the ability to develop creative and efficient solutions
  • Proficiency in automated unit and integration tests
  • Previous professional experience working remotely
  • A deep understanding that we always have to navigate between the immediate impact of a feature and the technical debt incurred by its implementation. You are able to carefully weigh the pros and cons and make a choice in favour of the company and the team

Bonus skills

Not required, but areas we want to be better in, so if you can tick any of those below, we could use that.

  • Experience with building B2B and consumer quality products from start-up/scale-ups
  • Deeper understanding of network and application security and maybe also security when it comes to CI/CD
  • Architectural experience with Cloud services like AWS, Google Cloud and Azure
  • DevOps/SRE experience

Want to join our team?

If you think that you would be a good fit for the role please send your CV to jobs@portchain.com in order to apply.
