Hiring Senior & Mid Software Engineers
next.js django python react-js senior cs Apr 05

Why Are We Hiring?

We're continuously hiring for software engineering roles at our company, and welcome candidates with all kinds of programming experience (different languages, frameworks, platforms, etc). We've found that both candidates with traditional CS backgrounds as well as others who are self-taught or freelancers can excel at our company.

We're not interested in hiring for any particular niche skill at the moment. Rather, we like to engage with engineers who have a well rounded and full stack background, either for web or mobile. If you feel particularly strong in one skill though, we still would like to talk.

More About The Role

As an engineer at our company, you'll work directly with our CTO and Creative Director and other engineers on a variety of software projects covering different programming languages, frameworks, and application architectures.

The single best reason to be an engineer at our company is because of the exposure to different programming languages, technologies and client projects.

Typical client work includes building any of the following: web and mobile apps, public and private API's, static sites and CMS platforms, e-commerce sites like Shopify stores, and digital transformation projects with enterprise clients.

For more information about how we run our Sprints and manage our SDLC, read our company Playbook.

Specific Qualifications

Ideally, you have experience with the following:

You have 2+ years working as a software engineer at another agency, a product focused startup, or an enterprise company.

You have spent some time freelancing independently, whether as a side hustle or full time. Almost everyone on our team has been an individual freelancer at one point, and understands the value of all the “work” outside of the actual deliverable for the client: excellent communication, professionalism, punctuality and follow through.

You have 0 ego with regards to your code, can both receive and offer feedback positively, and are willing to pair and help others as develop software alongside you.

You're a self-starter. You're not afraid to take initiative, but know when and how to check with others to ensure you're making the right decision. You can balance the technically correct and/or more elegant solution with what the client wants (which often differs) and can do this quickly.

You're not afraid to ship code! We don't care if it's not done yet. Push it up and get feedback!

Our company does not offer equity as we’re not a venture backed startup. However, there’s the possibility in the future for a revenue share of profit split at year’s end based on tenure.

To apply for this role, send ben@lightmatter.com an introductory email and attach your resume and cover letter along with your github profile if applicable.

SENIOR FULL-STACK DEV WITH RUBY / PYTHON / REACT NATIVE -- 100% REMOTE, FLEXIBLE
javascript node-js python react-js typescript ruby Mar 14

Analytics Fire builds custom software for the solar power industry. We’re looking for a senior full-stack developer with a willingness to acquire deep expertise around React Native and Energy Data in order to help us build a custom IoT platform and new energy dashboard.

Analytics Fire is a small, distributed team working on a range of interesting projects. For example, over the last year we have worked on a custom data platform for utility grade solar power plants, a sales and design tool for residential solar, and smart grid automation features for multiple types of embedded IoT devices. We’re looking for a fun, reliable, and highly collaborative, senior dev to join our team.

For reference, here is a list of technologies and tools we are currently actively using on a day-to-day basis:

  • Front-end (web/mobile): React / React Native / Angular
  • Back-end: Python / Ruby / Node / TypeScript / GraphQL
  • Embedded: C, C/C++, Yocto, Embedded Linux, some bare metal
  • DB: PostgreSQL, MySQL, InfluxDB, PI Server
  • DevOps: AWS, GCP, Docker, Terraform, Jenkins
  • Agile collaboration and DevOps tools
  • Occasionally we need to do a small amount of work around: SFDC, iOS/native, ARKit, Unity3d

This is a remote position. We’re flexible about location and hours, so long as your working hours are in a very heavily US-overlapping time zone (eg: North America, Central America, South America, etc). We’re a really great match for a senior dev in a US-overlapping timezone who wants to work hard on interesting projects, while also having flexibility around time and geography.

Skills & Requirements

Ideally, you should have 5+ years commercial full stack development, ideally within a startup environment. You should be comfortable autonomously driving your own high quality / high velocity contributions using a range of technologies.

We work with a variety of technologies, but are currently specifically looking for someone that has expert level skills around React and React Native, and has or is willing to level-up to expert-level skills in Python and InfluxDB.

About Analytics Fire

Analytics Fire was founded by a couple of data-nerds -- one a PHd in machine learning and the other a former VP of Engineering for an analytics platform -- who both are also serial entrepreneurs backed by prominent angels and VCs including Y Combinator and 500 Startups.

“Our goal founding, Analytics Fire, was to create the engineering department that we always dreamed of working for. Our dream is to be able to spend our time working on interesting problems, while simultaneously having flexibility around time and geography and being part of a small, tightly-knit team of world-class engineers.”

The engineering team at Root strives to be one of the most transformative engineering teams ever. We’re changing the way that car insurance works. We’re competing with companies that have been around for a century and comprise a $200B industry—and we’re doing it with astonishingly small teams.

Our tech stack includes:

Sr. Fullstack Software Engineer
ruby-on-rails react-js api javascript sql ruby Mar 02

We are a tight-knit group with diverse backgrounds who value our culture. Individually, we strive to be humble, hungry, and people-smart. As a team we put learners first, we ask clarifying questions, we highlight what’s working, we share before we are ready, we have difficult conversations, we get agreements, and we make time for life. These aren’t just slogans we put on the wall…we love and live by our culture.

So, if you are a hungry engineer who is looking to jump on a path of continuous learning, continuous improvement, and a team that values impacting real people in a real way… look no further, you may be a llama and just don’t know it yet.

This person will be a vital member of our team and will require full stack versatility. We want to enable those on our team to pursue their passions. We realize that some people love query optimization and API design as much as they love CSS and UI component structures. This team/role will have their hands in a little of everything—from a little UI, all the way to API development.

Candidates for this senior role will typically have at least 3+ years experience and will be most successful if they have a desire to grow in our entire stack but specialize in both frontend and backend development, but if you've gained equivalent experience in another way, we'd still love to talk.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Backend Engineering (40-60%)
    • Backend engineering at Lessonly includes the following server-side tech stack; Ruby, Rails, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Algolia, Redis, Memcached, and whatever comes next.
    • This job will require the ability to write code according to our Ruby style guide and Rails style guide which will include fixing bugs, authoring and modifying gems, as well as authoring and modifying core and supporting application functionality.
  • Frontend Engineering (40-60%):
    • As a front-end engineer, you’ll work alongside back-end engineers, designers, testers, and product managers to figure out how best to meet our customers’ needs in a lean, accessible, internationalized, and extensible way.
    • Our frontend codebase depends primarily on React, Webpack, and SCSS-preprocessed CSS, with a sprinkle of legacy jQuery and Backbone that we’re working on replacing.

  • Code Reviewer (20-30%):
    • A strong peer review culture is incredibly important to us. Everyone strives to improve every day, and the code review process is vital to this goal.
  • Infrastructure Engineering (0-10%)
    • Infrastructure engineering is for those who have expertise in the systems we use to build and deliver software, such as development environments, deployment pipelines, and hosting infrastructure.
    • This set of responsibilities is not a requirement for this job, however, if you geek out over docker, kubernetes, local TLS, or the like, this job could have that opportunity.

 Skills

  • Essential Abilities
    • Server-side tech (Ruby on Rails)
      • You are able to write production-quality APIs, controller-level code, and/or application business logic services.
    • Client-side tech (JS—React in particular—CSS, and HTML)
      • You have experience writing and maintaining code with a team at scale.
    • Working cross-functionally

Junior Software Engineer
typescript react-js dot net junior cs Mar 01

The best product development job in the world? We think so.

We are looking for people who live and work in Australia to join our remote-first team. You will be working on Octopus Deploy, the most popular deployment automation tool in the world. This means everything you do will positively affect the lives of thousands of software developers and operations teams around the world.

Read our employee handbook our people repository to discover what it's like working at Octopus.

You will join one of our development teams to work on Octopus Server. We work in 8-week cycles, focusing on directed work for 6-weeks. The other 2-weeks are for you to "sharpen your saw", working on your growth so you become more effective at your job. We remove unnecessary obstacles so you can work directly with customers who are developers just like us. Our teams are software tradespeople who care about doing things right the first time. You will probably be surprised at how collaboratively we work both inside and across our teams, even though our teams work remotely. We take pride in our hard-earned, friendly, consensus-building, and ever-improving remote-first culture.

Working at Octopus may be different from any other job you’ve had before. In many companies, software engineers are treated as an expense to reduce or a revenue stream to increase. In contrast, Octopus is a product company built from the ground up by engineers, for engineers. At Octopus your effort will be appreciated because you are adding value to our products, which are our assets. Also, our customers are people just like us. This makes it easy to relate to our customers and understand what they care about most.

Octopus is not done. Many of us came to Octopus thinking “it does everything I want, how can I possibly help?” Continual changes in the software landscape present a constant stream of opportunities for us to explore. We will continue to make Octopus the best tool in its class by increasing the value Octopus offers, pushing into new territory beyond deployment automation, all the while making Octopus easier and more delightful to use for both simple and complex scenarios alike. If you like solving distributed computing problems, building delightful user experiences, or anything in between, you can do that with us.

Octopus is not a startup. We do not need venture capital, we have been a sustainably profitable business from day one. We care about building a sustainable company and we do this by helping customers succeed, leaving increased revenue as a happy byproduct.

A typical day might include

  • Working where you work best, perhaps in a home office designed by you, using a device of your choosing, with or without music, in an atmosphere you create for yourself.
  • Changing source code hosted in GitHub, most of it in the open, collaborating on a pull-request, then shipping a release to customers around the world via an automated build, test, and delivery pipeline, often within the same day.
  • Working with your mentor to fix a bug using an approach like red-green-refactor to prevent customers from experiencing that bug again.
  • Attending an internal workshop held by some of the leading engineers in the industry
  • Learning a functional language so you can apply that thinking to our code base
  • Building tools to help the team work more effectively.
  • Improving our documentation to help customers discover solutions for themselves, and learn how to use Octopus for more complicated workflows.
  • Writing a blog post about something interesting for other developers, or explaining a new feature of Octopus.

You will be a great fit for this role if

  • You have 1 to 3 years of professional software development experience.
  • You enjoy experimenting with software and have a drive to learn.
  • You are keen to learn C#, TypeScript and React and worth with them day to day.
  • You enjoy automating things like builds, tests, deployments, infrastructure, and operational tasks.
  • You enjoy collaborating with other people to solve problems, challenging each other to discover the best solution for a problem, using a balance of passion, pragmatism, and empathy.
  • You are a results-oriented person, someone who is focused on iteratively delivering valuable things to your customers, someone who willingly changes direction based on clear and transparent business information, and someone who helps others do the same.
  • You are able to work independently, motivating yourself to do high-quality work on time, communicating with your teammates when you need help or when you are ready for something new.

You will enjoy this role if

  • You like a balance of freedom and responsibility, being treated as an adult.
  • You like getting a deep understanding of the problem before diving in and fixing it
  • You enthusiastically accept radically candid feedback, feedback that is thoughtful, timely, and directly actionable, and offer the same benefit to others.
  • You want to do your best work with other like-minded people.
  • You enjoy doing things the right way from the very beginning knowing you are working on a valuable asset.
  • You enjoy working with great tools and modern programming frameworks in the development environment of your choice.
  • You enjoy collaborating with customers and co-workers to find the best solution, not just the obvious one.

Articulate is looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer. We’re makers. We believe the job of a development team is more than just writing code. We are here to create experiences which delight our customers—that is always our top priority.

We’re a fully distributed company with a high degree of autonomy and no office space. At Articulate, you’ll work closely with an awesome team of developers and designers to build industry-leading products and solve interesting problems.

The ideal person for this job is a multitalented Full-Stack Software Engineer with a good eye. This person sweats the details, focuses on quality results instead of effort, and sees problems as opportunities to learn and level up as a team. Solid GIF skills and emojis game are big bonuses. While we’re looking for a full-stack engineer, this particular position will have more of a backend focus.

Here’s a smattering of the tech you’ll be working with: Node.js, React, JavaScript/TypeScript, (S)CSS, AWS, GitHub, and Slack. Functional programming experience or experience integrating large 3rd party platforms a plus.

You have read our human-centered organization framework and are in sync with it 100%

Senior Software Engineer - React.js for PWA
Laminar
react-js javascript progressive-web-apps frontend senior machine learning Feb 16

Come and shake up a $1.3 trillion industry. Our mission is to be the digital backbone of the construction industry. Our SaaS enhances the way people collaborate on construction sites.

  • Join our team of 10 developers (and growing).
  • Work 4 days a week - This makes life more balanced and productive.
  • Work in 6 weeks cycles - following Basecamp’s Shape Up model.
  • Be a part of the most transformative software ever seen on a construction site.
  • Use the latest technologies such as ReactJS and give offline capability to our PWAs’ users.
  • Have a big influence on the direction of the products.
  • Remote first - We work remote as default, and will treat our office as a community centre.

Who we are (We are pretty serious about this part!)

We are self-funded by our own construction consultancy business which means we have time to do things right and have full control over what we do and when.

The construction industry is one of the least digitised industries. This deters its ability to improve productivity.

We are building Resolve to fix that!

Our solution has world-class UX and human-centred design. We allow users to solve problems on the ground, while we collect site data. We will then perform advanced analytics using AI and Machine Learning to help deliver projects more effectively.

The next bit may seem a bit dramatic but our team exists so that we can work in a community that:

  • Connects us with meaningful relationships
  • Inspires us to develop ourselves to become better humans
  • Empowers us to learn new things just for the fun of it

With this we can achieve the highest levels of value for the customer, the industry and the world.

What are we looking for?

  •  You have extensive experience in Javascript and React.
  • You know the difference between npm and yarn.
  • You’re an experienced developer who follows best practices.
  • You’re a leader and want to develop those around you.
  • A passion for making things modular and future-proof.
  • You’re a problem solver, always looking for better ways to do things (you’ve probably written scripts to automate all kinds of tasks!).
  • You like to be involved in the whole life-cycle of developing features, from planning to deployment
  • Hands on. Persistent. Patient. Creative.

Why join us?

  • Full time pay but 4 day work week!
  • Performance/capability related salary - Pure meritocracy
  • We care about people (see previous section!) - We aren't a company, we are a team
  • Working closely with the founders in a tight knit team
  • You will be supported to excel in whichever areas you are most interested in. We think development should be unbounded!

Come and work with us! Send an email to joinus@laminarprojects.com.

We get hundreds of applications, so please include a short summary/cover letter explaining why you want to join us. We aren't a giant faceless corporation, we care about the people who want to join our team so all letters will be read by one of the founders.

Senior Full Stack Developer
python rest react-js react-native postgresql full stack Feb 16

Introduction

Motosumo is an innovative Danish startup founded in 2014 and based in Copenhagen. We are a fit-tech company that delivers live streaming indoor bike classes; think Peloton, but for everyone. Our app, along with some cutting-edge machine learning, uses the sensors built into smartphones to provide a more fun, engaging fitness experience, no matter what bike you are using at home. Our live streaming solution is already on the market, and now, we are looking to ramp up development to make the experience even smoother and our classes even more engaging.

We are a small, close-knit team working in a fast-moving and ever-changing market. Our team is growing, and we’re looking for a senior full-stack developer to join the fold.

The job

Our current solution is built on a React Native app for iOS and Android, and a React.js web front-end with game components developed in Unity. Our backend is based on Python, Elixir, Redis, PostgreSQL, and deployed with Chef and Docker on AWS.

Our tech department consists of nine developers (or at least it will after you have been hired), and is split between two four-person teams: the Live Experience team, and the Activation and Subscriptions team. You will be part of the Activation and Subscriptions team, together with our experienced and dedicated full-stack and front-end developers. The team is responsible for creating the smoothest experience possible for our users, whether it’s making it easy to sign up for a trial, joining the right class, or setting up the best environment for using our product at home with a stationary bike.

Your job will be to help create a superlative user experience. That might involve  making the app faster and more responsive, developing a slick UI for the onboarding flow, coming up with clever solutions for sign-in across multiple applications, making it easy to subscribe to our application, implementing Kafka in our backend, or just keeping everything humming along while optimizing our build process.

Apart from the other developers on your team, you will be working closely with our product owner and UX designer. But you will still have freedom to shape the new features that you’ll be implementing with the rest of the team.

You will be part of a team that maintains both a React.js web app, a React Native app, and a very central component of our Python and postgreSQL-based backend. You need to take responsibility for all aspects of a project to ensure the user always gets a great, reliable, and consistent  experience with our product.

Who you are

You are a senior full stack developer, and preferably you already know your way around React JS, React Native, Python, and AWS. But, being the developer you are, you won’t have  any problems getting to grips with new technologies, or any other skill you might need in order to do your job a little better.

We understand you can’t be an expert at everything, but you will be part of a cross-functional team, so we’d be excited to hear about any hidden skill you might have that could help us build a better product. That could include having an eye for UI design work; a knack for designing a totally frictionless, yet secure, authentication system; or insights into creating great RESTful API’s.

You will be working with a lot of different profiles at Motosumo, and that’s ok because communication and teamwork is something you enjoy. You know that writing software is a team sport, so you feel it’s essential that your code is well tested and documented. Also, you might enjoy working for Motosumo so much that one day, you might be the one that has to figure out what that clever bit of code actually does.

What we offer

A role in an exciting startup with an ambitious team, right as we embark on a journey into a new market of live, online fitness classes. We need to scale our platform and implement a ton of new features, so there will be plenty of challenges along the way.

Even though we’re currently very busy shipping  new features, we promise to do our best to help you adapt to the new role, and we’ll give you plenty of time to grow as a developer and as a member of the team.

The word “startup” sometimes conjures up the dreaded  “bro culture” stereotype (yuck!), but in this case, it’s not true. We are very much an equal opportunity employer, and we value diversity and mutual respect.

Perks and benefits

This job comes with several perks and benefits.

Reasonable Work-Life Balance

Sure, we’re a startup, but that doesn’t  mean it’s always crunch time around here! Of course, there are periods where there is a lot of work to do, but we strongly believe that you should be able to have time for yourself and your family. So we work hard to ensure everyone has a healthy work-life balance. So far we’ve been successful delivering on that promise.

Free lunch

They say there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch, but we do have a nice canteen at the office, where you can enjoy lunch with your colleagues, every day (after the pandemic!), at a very reasonable rate.

Fresh fruit, coffee, and soda.

Fruit, coffee and soda is available, free of charge, at the office.

Remote Work

Our physical office is in Copenhagen, but like everyone else, we have been affected by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, so our team has been mostly working remotely for the last year. Even before the pandemic, we had remote developers, and after all this is over, remote work will continue to be an option when you are working for Motosumo.

Competitive Salary

We offer a competitive salary and, if you’re interested, the option to convert a percentage of it into equity.

Pension and Health Insurance

We offer a pension plan and health insurance as part of the package.

6 weeks of vacation

We are open to hiring a developer based abroad, so even if you don’t live in Denmark, you’ll still enjoy the generous Danish vacation allowance.

Property Meld's vision is to radically improve how the property management industry handles property maintenance. If you've ever had a maintenance issue at your housing rental, you know how much of a pain it can be to get it fixed quickly and reliably. This pain is felt by everyone involved, from the resident to the coordinator to the technician doing the actual repairs. It doesn't have to be this way.

Our mission is threefold:

 1. Provide a positive experience for all participants in the property maintenance process

 2. Intelligently improve efficiency

3. Deliver transparency and a sense of control

We’re a small but growing company with funding and hundreds of happy customers. Over the past five years, we’ve homed in on the challenges our customers face when running their maintenance department, namely, running an efficient maintenance department requires cooperation, communication, and the ability to see through the fog to focus on what actually matters. The stakes are high for our customers. A bad maintenance experience is the number one reason renters move out when they otherwise wouldn’t have. If property repairs take too long or cost too much property managers are on the hook both financially and legally. With over 30 million units for rent in the United States alone the opportunity is sizeable.

Your contributions will be critical to the success of our customers and Property Meld. Our core product is a multitenant web application that services hundreds of thousands of users. You’ll occasionally wear multiple hats and will need to quickly come up to speed on various parts of the application. You can expect to be responsible for the entire lifecycle of a given project – that is, engineering design, estimation, development, deployment, and monitoring. We’re pragmatic about engineering decisions and prioritize rapidly and consistently delivering value to our customers above all else.

You’ll have the freedom to choose how to solve problems, given the constraints of the business and infrastructure. With this freedom, you’ll be expected to make sound decisions and to swiftly iterate on them until they are either successful or we’ve learned a new direction would be more prudent. Many of the challenges you will encounter won’t have any low hanging fruit left. As a result, you’ll need to design and implement solutions that have a higher degree of difficulty than initial glance might suggest.

What you might work on

  •  Scaling, hardening, and adding to our partner integrations
  •  Adding features to improve the workflow for maintenance coordinators
  •  Improving the CI/CD deployment pipeline
  •  Designing and implementing an analytics platform for our users to measure the performance of     their maintenance operations
  •  Building a real-time data pipeline

What might make you a good fit

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator
  • A bias for action
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to work with leadership on translating initiatives into product features.
  • You can anticipate the technical needs of the application and work to communicate those to their   stakeholders
  •  Have shipped high-quality production software at scale
  •  Experience with any of the following: Python, Typescript, React, Relational databases, NoSQL   databases

Pay and benefits

Candidates MUST be eligible for full-time employment in the United States.

The product team at Property Meld is a remote-work organization. We require 4 hours of overlap time, daily, with the Mountain Time Zone. The position is 99% remote, with the following non-pandemic exceptions: Once a year, the total company gets together for a week of getting to know each other and to better understand the big picture of the company and how we work in each department and role. Two times per year the product team gets together in the same physical location to get to know each other better and work through interesting challenges together. In addition, once a quarter, on your schedule, you are expected to visit with a customer and shadow them learning how they are using and not using our product.

We value diverse points of view and know that our differences make us stronger, we believe in fostering a place to work that is open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy.  We strongly encourage applications from individuals who are under-represented in the tech industry, across color, creed, race, ethnic and national origin, physical ability, gender, and sexual identity, or any other basis.
