As a Software Engineer on the OpCon team, you will work with teammates to build and improve the core OpCon automation platform.  This role has the responsibility for the web application that customers use to define and monitor their automation workflows, as well as the services that schedule the execution of the defined automation tasks.    In this role, you have end-to-end responsibility for the product and the ability to deliver functionality from concept to delivery.  A typical week will consist of you adding a new component to our user interface, building the back-end web services to support it, and working with quality assistance to ensure proper test automation was built and manual testing has occurred.

  • Working with the Lead, you will help implement a technical roadmap that takes scalability, testing and performance into account and present a gap analysis of what potentially can be done better based on our current solution
  • You will be responsible for taking on development items to get your hands in the current tech stack (75-90% of your time)

Job Description

We are looking for several candidates, there are 2 main roles we will consider, a full-stack and a front-end specialist.

We currently have a rich SPA written in AngularJS 1.4+ (with Typescript). This is in the process of being moved over to Angular, so a front-end specialist would be instrumental in driving that forward but also help add new features where necessary to a large complex application.

A full stack developer would need AngularJS experience and Angular would be a bonus for that role.  The full-stack developer will have good .NET skills and excellent SQL Server skills as the nature of our application means we deal with millions of ship positions every hour, therefore a full-stack developer needs to understand coding for performance, especially SQL Server performance.  In addition, as we move our architecture forward, someone well versed in NoSQL dbs would be advantageous.

We have an ASP.NET MVC website and several services which are in the process of getting containerized. Any full stack engineer that has skills in docker / aws / devops could really make a difference in that area as well.

At BloodHub we are focused on helping blood centers and hospitals maximize the efficiency of their interactions.   Our project managers work closely with our customers to identify their business objectives.  These business objectives are then presented to the engineering team for implementation. As an experienced full stack developer you'll have latitude to present a solution you feel maximizes the business objectives while maintaining the integrity of the system.

Our team is remote and this allows engineers to work flexible hours at a place of their choosing.  We first try to put out any fires (there aren't many), quash bugs and then build features.  We lean heavily on test harnesses to minimize regressions and CI to maximize automation. We avoid meetings and regard email as a necessary communication tool.  The languages we use are mostly Ruby on Rails, Javascript, and CoffeeScript.  PostgreSQL is our main data store while MS-SQL is used for customer integrations. The tools we lean on are Cucumber, Rspec, GitHub and CircleCI.  Our migration to the Google Cloud platform is underway.

Your average day will start with checking in with the team and making sure no one has any immediate needs.  Usually there aren't any. You'll then be able to focus on your engineering tasks. As a full stack engineer this will include direct engineering work on the product, SQL based client integrations, code reviews and DevOps related work. You will be expected to make progress in a self-directed fashion without micromanagement. At the end of each day you should feel good about your work product, the company's direction and enjoy your free time.
