Our Guest Experience Platform team is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to play a lead role in the building and running of our modern big data and machine learning platform that powers our products and services. In this role, you will responsible for building the analytical data pipeline, data lake, and real-time data streaming services.  You should be passionate about technology and complex big data business challenges.

You can have a huge impact on everything from the functionality we deliver for our clients, to the architecture of our systems, to the technologies that we are adopting.

  • Design and develop business-critical data pipelines and related back-end services
  • Identification of and participation in simplifying and addressing scalability issues for enterprise level data pipeline
  • Design and build big data infrastructure to support our data lake


  • 2+ years of extensive experience with Hadoop (or similar) Ecosystem (MapReduce, Yarn, HDFS, Hive, Spark, Presto, HBase, Parquet)
  • Experience with building, breaking, and fixing production data pipelines
  • Hands-on SQL skills and background in other data stores like SQL-Server, Postgres, and MongoDB
  • Experience with continuous delivery and automated deployments (Terraform)
  • ETL experience
  • Able to identify and participate in addressing scalability issues for enterprise level data
  • Python programming experience


  • Experience with machine learning libraries like scikit-learn, Tensorflow, etc., or an interest in picking it up
  • Experience with R to mine structured and unstructured data and/or building statistical models
  • Experience with Elasticsearch
  • Experience with AWS services like Glue, S3, SQS, Lambda, Fargate, EC2, Athena, Kinesis, Step Functions, DynamoDB, CloudFormation and CloudWatch will be a huge plus


There are 3 options for the location of this position (candidates based outside the US are NOT being considered at this time):

  • You can work remotely in the continental US with occasional travel to Bend, Oregon
  • You can be based at a shared office space in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon

Director, Platform Engineering

The Platform Engineering team at Olo builds and supports our shared infrastructure and foundational services and libraries in support of all product engineering teams. They build automation and tooling to enable all Olo engineering teams to deploy and manage infrastructure for their services and applications. Olo embraces a true DevOps culture where product development teams are ultimately responsible for operation of their services and applications, and Platform Engineering provides them with the tools and expertise to support their systems. Platform Engineering is, in short, a force multiplier that simplifies operational tasks and enables our engineers to be self-sufficient and productive.

The scope of Platform Engineering at Olo includes infrastructure automation and tooling, systems, network and database administration, development of cross-cutting libraries and services, data infrastructure engineering, and site reliability engineering.

As Director, Platform Engineering, you will lead and support multiple teams as a manager of managers, but with the opportunity to set direction across all teams, grow existing teams, and build out new teams. This is a new role at Olo that will provide management support and focus for a key part of our team in their service to the rest of Olo Engineering. You will help establish your team’s vision, guide their execution, align priorities with the needs of the business, evolve processes in support of continuous improvement, drive stakeholder alignment, and coach and further develop those engineering managers who report to you. You will foster a culture of collaboration, communication, accountability, skill sharing, teamwork, mutual respect, and curiosity.

As a servant leader, your focus will be on facilitating successful team outcomes, hiring and developing engineering talent, and ensuring that we are delivering an exceptional service to Olo’s product engineering teams. Our ideal candidate has led a platform engineering team for a fast-growing SaaS product company managing large scale, highly available, distributed systems, and has demonstrated success in leading and building a high performance engineering team.

Our technology stack is rooted in .NET and SQL Server running in an AWS infrastructure, and we leverage modern software engineering tools such as GitHub, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, Datadog, and Sumo Logic, as well as heavy use of OSS.

This is a full-time position. Candidates may work at Olo’s headquarters in New York City’s Financial District, or remotely from anywhere in the U.S. In fact, more than 75% of our engineering team is remote!

Desired Experience

  • Experience managing large scale, highly available, distributed systems in rapid growth environments
  • At least 4 years of operations experience spanning administration of operating systems, networks, databases, and distributed systems as well as security operations and compliance, preferably in an AWS hosted infrastructure
  • Experience building and/or managing a data engineering function
  • Experience managing a 24x7 operations team, including incident response management
  • Experience supporting software build/test/deploy/observability toolchains and automating infrastructure deployment
  • Working understanding of Site Reliability Engineering principles, including working with Service Level Objectives and Indicators, managing error budgets, and building an observability culture
  • At least 4 years of software development experience
  • At least 5 years of engineering management experience under an Agile operational model, with 2 or more years in a manager-of-managers capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to build and mentor a high performance team while seeking continuous improvement
  • Ability to translate business priorities into viable technology or process solutions, and deliver
  • Experience developing realistic project plans, managing stakeholder expectations, and tracking team execution
  • Experience managing distributed teams consisting largely of remote engineers
  • BS degree in a technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience
  • Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills
  • Legal right to work in the U.S.

In this leadership role, the Director of Digital Technology is responsible for spearheading technology strategies and development efforts while building long-term customer relationships within a growing consulting services company.

Hands-on, seasoned technical professional who contributes to the technical vision of Intevity and its clients, and confidently leads Intevity’s enterprise clients through digital transformations.

Team player that fosters transparent communication and has a “help first” attitude on his / her team. Fulltime leader responsible for supporting new business development, maintaining technical excellence across engagement projects, and growing and leading an outstanding technology development team in a fast-paced agile environment.

Responsibilities and activities are varied but include:

Client Engagements:

  • Lead and define technology / development / platform engagement objectives, strategy and approach while developing and maintaining relationships with key client stakeholders

  • Act as a hands-on solution architect and technical lead for client Engagement teams; with the ability to manage multiple client engagements concurrently

  • Evaluate technologies and advise on technical challenges and risks, costs and benefits, and alternative solutions

  • Define and ensure best practices and compliance to software development standards are upheld across teams

  • Serve as technology SME for client discussions and workshops, and facilitates conversations to ensure stakeholder alignment on strategic solutions

  • Collaborate with individual account Engagement Director(s) on the Technology portion of an engagement to assign technical resources, and assist with planning and kick-off activities as needed

Pre-Sales & Business Development:

  • Participate in pre-sales and sales efforts for key accounts

  • Lead the Intevity Technology team in shaping new opportunities for Intevity—be it expanding current client relationships, or forging new ones 

  • Strategize and propose solutions for complex technical, scalability or performance challenges

  • Communicate technical concepts, platforms and architectures, and solutions to clients in a compelling manner

  • Develop and tell cohesive stories about proposed technology solutions and also past case studies

  • Assist with the development of proposals, including shaping and responding to opportunities, proposal creation, and oral presentations related to the Technology team

  • Collaborate with Engagement Directors to estimate engagements, and create statements of work that describe the scope, work effort, deliverables, and costs

Practice Development and Strategy:

  • Build and execute strategic plans for enterprise technology solutions, including technical leadership and architectural direction

  • Lead, oversee and define best practices for technology and platform solutions, technical and quality standards and developer processes, and web and platform development using reusable software components of Fortune 500 clients

  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies on a regular basis to maintain technical excellence and development efficiencies both for internal use and to better service enterprise clients

  • Drive, oversee, and provide thought leadership for technology and development, internally and externally through social media engagement (Intevity blogging, LinkedIn, Twitter), speaking at industry events, one-pagers, and white paper authoring

Leading, Managing and Mentoring:

  • Natural ability to coach, lead and mentor team members (e.g. technical leads, developers) and managers—with an emphasis on aligning their strengths and passions to Intevity business strategy and providing constructive feedback and support

  • Establish and maintain an open, supportive environment where people can do their best work

  • Successfully manage project teams of varying sizes using Agile methodologies

  • Mentor and guide Engagement Directors on how to lead with an integrated technology / development approach

  • Manage utilization of the Technology team to attain individual and team targets

We observe and operate standard East Coast working hours to support the majority of our clients and our teammates.   • US Citizenship is required due to the nature of our commercial and government projects

  • Minimum of 10 years of related industry experience working with enterprise clients, including at least 5 years in a leadership role leading technology and development, and the creation of outstanding technology solutions within software applications

  • Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate working and problem-solving with others as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills, confident public speaking/presentation skills and the demonstrated ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment

  • Deep understanding of software architecture, full-stack development, and platform solutions to leverage contemporary IT technologies to create best in class solutions and lead multi-disciplinary teams in the development and production of solutions that exactly meet client business objectives and goals

  • Comfortable and experienced with multiple modern front-end and back-end technologies (Examples: AEM, Sitecore, SFDC, Redis, NoSQL, React, GraphQL, AWS / Azure), as well as infrastructure and build automation technologies 

  • Comfortable and experienced with web services and backend web platforms such as Adobe AEM and Salesforce 

  • Deep exposure to all aspects of modern web application architectures, visual design, and mobile web development

  • Highly motivated, with a proven track record of building and expanding accounts with enterprise clients

  • Natural leadership, mentoring, and team-building abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple business initiatives

Who You Are

  • You have excellent references and a history of trust and established relationships in former careers.
  • You have a long history and track record of DevOps that can be demonstrated via GitHub, blogs and/or in a technical interview process.

  • You have a passion for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and a demonstrated passion for solving problems.
  • You don't care if the platform is Azure or AWS and are willing to work with either and have some experience with at least one.
